Found May 02, 2013 on The Victory Formation:
Many argue Sandy Koufax as one of the greatest pitchers of all-time. He dominated the National League as a member of the Brooklyn Dodgers. He baffled batters, especially the final five seasons of his career where his WHIP was below 1.00 a game. That’s insane for a starter, in any era. Oh, his final two seasons, he pitched in 335.2 and 320 innings. He didn’t show any signs of slowing down, but then retired. But it took some time for Koufax to get to that point in his career, the first half of his career was necessarily pedestrian, but it was nothing close to what he would become. The Dodgers showed patience with him, and they had good reason to based upon an early scouting report from his high school days. They knew they had a star on their roster. Here is a copy of the actual scouting report via ESPN: Nothing below an A-. More impressive? Averaging 16 strikeouts per game as a high school kid. The most interesting part of the remarks section has to be that Koufax was not interested in pro ball until he graduated from the University of Cincinnati. Koufax’s first start with the Dodgers [...]

Jarret Martin dominates, but loses in best outing of Dodgers' career

Jarret Martin had one of the best performances of his Dodger career on Wednesday night, but it wasn't enough to propel the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes to victory. Martin's line was rather impressive: 6 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 8 K. The Stockton Ports scored their only two runs of the night in the first inning, aided by a Darnell Sweeney error -- his 13th in 24 games. Addison...

Making Moves: The Aaron Laffey era awaits, Dashenko Ricardo won’t pitch, Osiris Ramirez inked

Clayton Kershaw was placed on the Bereavement List, but is expected to make his scheduled start Friday. By rule, Kershaw must miss a minimum of three games but a maximum of seven while on the bereavement list. There were no further details given, as the team called it a “personal issue” that Kershaw would address when he returns to the team. Manager Don Mattingly said Kershaw...

Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw to start Friday

The Los Angeles Dodgers recently placed left-handed starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw on the bereavement list following the death of his father. While Kershaw has been apart from the club as a result of the loss, LA didn't expect him to miss Friday's regularly scheduled start when they made the transaction. Kershaw indeed will not miss Friday's matchup against the San...

A Prime Cut of Bison.

Matt Kemp autographs are hard to come by, as prices are high and the market doesn't have a lot of new supply flowing in as Kemp's autographs the last 2-3 years have all been in redemption form. When a live signature hits the market and the price remains reasonable, I have to jump as a Bison Collector. My latest addition is a sweet piece I landed for a steal. For the price...

Video: Dodgers' prospect Angelo Songco's RBI double against Stockton

This is a quick video I was able to shoot/edit of Angelo Songco ripping a double to the right-center field gap on Thursday against Stockton Ports' pitcher Jeremy Brown. Songco is coming off a terrible season that was shortened by injury. He's not hitting particularly well so far this season (.267/.306/.396), but he does have a decent bat. He was fantastic in the California...

Dodgers' Pitcher Ted Lilly Placed On DL, Kershaw Returns

Dodgers' left handed pitcher Ted Lilly was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a rib-cage muscle strain.  The move was made to make room for Clayton Kershaw, who was on the bereavement list since Monday after the death of his father. As reported by Ken Gurnick of MLB.com, "Lilly, who started the season on the disabled list after shoulder surgery, made his...

Psy visits Dodgers Stadium, Tommy Lasorda is not impressed (Video)

Back on Tuesday night, Korean pop artist Psy made appearance at Dodgers Stadium during the Dodgers tilt with the Rockies. As you might figured, cameras go where Psy goes and it appears that Los Angeles Dodgers legendary manager Tommy Lasorda was not impressed: Your browser does not support iframes. Clearly, Mr. Lasorda is not down with the "Gangnam Style Gentleman"...

Dodgers place Lilly on DL, activate Kershaw

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- The Los Angeles Dodgers have placed left-hander Ted Lilly on the 15-day disabled list with a strain in his right rib cage and activated Friday night starter Clayton Kershaw from the bereavement list. Kershaw was to pitch the opener of a weekend series against the San Francisco Giants on regular rest after being away from the club following the death of his...

Dodgers activate Kershaw, send Ted Lilly to DL

The Los Angeles Dodgers activated starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw from the bereavement list in time for the left hander to make his Friday start. The Dodgers also placed Ted Lilly on the disabled list with a rib cage injury. Kershaw has a 1.73 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 47/12 K/BB ratio in 41 2/3 innings over his first six starts this season. He left the team on Monday but was never in...

Dare you to guess who is #1 without clicking. fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?p… — Mike Petriello (@mike_petriello) May 2, 2013 Assuming you read the headline to this post, I’ve already spoiled the answer, but I’m not sure that knowing that...

Dodgers’ Gordon begins fielding balls at second

Dee Gordon has begun taking ground balls at second base suggesting his future with the Dodgers will not be at shortstop. The Dodgers sent the 25-year-old Gordon to Triple-A Albuquerque to start the season. Gordon has compiled a .302/.368/.417 line during his minor league stay and has stolen 12 bases. The Dodges have Hanley Ramirez and Mark Ellis at shortstop and second base. Gordon...

Beckett remains winless as Dodgers drop rubber match

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Troy Tulowitzki and Carlos Gonzalez each hit two-run doubles, and center fielder Dexter Fowler robbed Adrian Gonzalez of what would have been his second home run of the game, leading the Colorado Rockies to a 7-3 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday night. Reliever Josh Outman (1-0) got credit for the victory in the rubber game of the series, allowing...

David Ortiz Tweets Message to Former Teammate Hanley Ramirez, Who Just Returned From DL Stint (Photo)

Hanley Ramirez can only hope to replicate the production that David Ortiz has provided since returning from a stint on the disabled list. The Dodgers shortstop at least has Ortiz’s blessing, though. Ortiz sent out a tweet on Thursday afternoon wishing his “boy” the best of luck. Ramirez already returned with a bang — going deep in his first game on Tuesday and going 3-for...

Dodgers-Giants Preview

Clayton Kershaw has routinely mowed down baseball's best hitters since his arrival in the major leagues. His next start could prove to be one of his most challenging - but not because of the competition. Kershaw will take the mound Friday night for the first time since the death of his father as the Los Angeles Dodgers meet the San Francisco Giants in the opener of a three-game...
