In a very surprising move today, the Dodgers announced that they have activated Rubby De La Rosa from the 60-day disabled list. In a corresponding move Javy Guerra was sent down to triple-a until the rosters expand in September. Barely a year after undergoing Tommy John surgery, Rubby is back and his return will be met with open arms. A fairly quick return for one of the Dodgers more promising young arms. Rubby has been very impressive during his rehab appearances, in twelve innings he didn’t allow one run. Not one.

Rubby will likely spend the rest of the season as a member of the bullpen not the starting rotations. The Dodgers didn’t have enough time to get him ready for the starting rotation before the minor league season comes to an end. Instead, Rubby will get a chance to get back in the bigs and do his thing. With the bullpen a bit shaky as of late, Mattingly will likely look to his new weapon to boost the bullpen a bit as the Dodgers look to win the NL West.

Last season De La Rosa, the organization’s minor league player of the year in 2010, went 4-5 with a 3.71 ERA in 13 appearances. He was hitting 100 mph on the radar gun before the injury to his elbow. During his rehab appearances Rubby was hitting in the mid-90s during his time with Rancho Cucamonga.

“I’m still a little scared to put in all of my gas,” De La Rosa said.

That okay Rubby we know you will be throwing 100 mph before the season is over. Can’t wait to see this kid get back on the mound. Go blue!
