Yu Darvish is pretty. His first inning tonight was not. My twitter and facebook feeds were alive with frustration and disappointment as the Rangers’ big off-season acquisition let the Mariners take a first-inning lead. There were a few calm voices among my fellow fans. They preached patience. And fortunately that patience was rewarded. The Rangers bats got going, and Darvish settled down.
They had to sit through some ugly first though.
Darvish walked his first batter of the season, Chone Figgins, and then followed up with a strikeout to Dustin Ackley. Despite the K, Darvish still appeared a bit rattled — allowing four singles and two more walks in the frame before notching the final two outs of the inning. The Mariners scored four times in that frame. They got another run in the 2nd, and were up 5-2 after two and a half innings.
The Rangers bats were just about to get hot.
