Found August 24, 2013 on Fox Sports:
A number of Dodgers veterans spoke with rookie Yasiel Puig this week, explaining that he needs to cut down on his mistakes. Dodgers utility man Jerry Hairston said players essentially told Puig, "Hey, that's enough," pointing out that such mistakes could prove decisive in important games down the stretch or in the playoffs. Puig has made a number of baserunning mistakes, has frequently missed cutoff men with his throws and showed up late for a game last week. "A lot of things are happening to him," Hairston said. "He's a superstar at 22. He's in a new country, a new culture. We are sensitive to that. "But if you¹re going to be a great player, you've got to do the little things. That's how you win. That's the key." Hairston said Puig was receptive and showed notable improvement in the team's recent series in Miami.

Yasiel Puig criticism reaches new heights of stupidity and rabble-rousing

Let me preface this by acknowledging my Dodger fandom plays into this opinion. Everyone needs to get off Yasiel Puig’s back, and the media needs to be far less lazy. For some reason, two national writers decided to lambaste Puig in columns this week. The first was Jon Paul Morosi of Fox Sports. Here are some excerpts from his Tuesday column:  “But if I were a Dodgers...

Yasiel Puig – A Misunderstood Superstar in the Making

CHECK OUT OUR NEW SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SPORTS SITE WWW.SPORTSREPORTSOCAL.COM Yasiel Puig is a colorful, exciting, impactful player and has been ever since he joined the Los Angeles Dodgers.  But, not everyone enjoys his mannerisms.  If you go back and look at the commentary about a young Roberto Clemente or almost any other young Latin superstar in baseball history, you see a...

Kershaw in line for record windfall

Clayton Kershaw, $200 million man? The idea nearly became reality earlier this season, when Kershaw was close to signing a record-setting, seven-year extension in the $210 million range, according to major league sources. The Dodgers backed off, though, and the two sides have not negotiated in months, sources said. Talks are unlikely to resume until the offseason, and by then Kershaw...

Vin Scully to return to Dodgers booth in 2014

Vin Scully, one of baseball's most beloved broadcasters, will return to the Los Angeles Dodgers for a record 65th season in 2014. Scully said in a statement released Friday that he loves what the new ownership group has brought to the Dodgers and the energy that fans are creating while packing Dodger Stadium. He says that other than being home with his family, ''there...

Dodgers' series loss proves road to October not easy

LOS ANGELES Maybe this was just a sneak preview, an appetizer of what might come in October. If it is, the Dodgers learned that nothing will come easily in the playoffs. They found it out over the weekend, losing a series for the first time since June and discovering that there are teams that know how to grind out wins with strong pitching and opportunistic hitting. For most of...

Beckett a week away from throwing a ball again

All-Star right-hander Josh Beckett, a cornerstone of the Dodgers' blockbuster trade with Boston a year ago, has declared himself ahead of schedule after thoracic outlet syndrome surgery and expects to be ready for the start of spring training. Beckett made his remarks on Sunday - the anniversary of the trade - before watching his current and former clubs conclude their three...

Report: Red Sox, Marlins Discussed Carl Crawford-for-Hanley Ramirez Swap During 2012 Season

Carl Crawford and Hanley Ramirez now share a clubhouse in Los Angeles. But there reportedly was a point last season when they almost traded places on the East Coast. The Red Sox and Marlins discussed the possibility of a trade that would have sent Crawford to Miami in exchange for Ramirez, according to WEEI.com’s Alex Speier. The potential swap never gained traction, though, and...

Yasiel Puig is a man

Yasiel Puig was dehydrated and received an IV last night for calf cramps, explaining why he was limping. — Ken Gurnick (@kengurnick) August 22, 2013   Lebron James and South Beach made an honest man out of Yasiel Puig the other night; a very hungover honest man. I always respected a guy who could go out until the wee hours of the night and abuse copious amounts of alcohol, only...

Dodgers lose to Red Sox 4-2

Hyun-Jin Ryu struggled in the first inning against the Boston Red Sox. Eventually, the rookie settled down but his team mounted its comeback too late. Ryu lost consecutive decisions for the first time in his career, giving up four runs and five hits in the Los Angeles Dodgers' 4-2 loss on Sunday that ended their four-game winning streak. Jonny Gomes hit a three-run homer off...

A year later, Dodgers, Red Sox excel

Last summer's blockbuster was a win for the Los Angeles Dodgers, a win for the Boston Red Sox, a win for the fans of both teams. The thing I still don't get -- the thing that has yet to be fully explained -- is why the Dodgers took on all but $11 million of the $275.69 million guaranteed the players they acquired. If the Dodgers had said, "Sorry, we want $100 million...

Josh Beckett Says Criticism Got ‘Too Personal’ Near End of Red Sox Tenure, Resents Clubhouse ‘Pity Party’

With the Red Sox set to meet the Dodgers this weekend, almost exactly after last year’s franchise-shaking trade, all the major players in the deal have been asked to reflect upon their time in Boston. Josh Beckett did so in an interview with WEEI.com’s Rob Bradford earlier this week, and his depiction of the atmosphere surrounding the Red Sox clubhouse was not a favorable one...

Your Morning Dump...where we celebrate the one-year anniversary of the "Megatrade"

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. One year ago today, the Red Sox were on the verge of completing a nine-player trade with the Dodgers that stunned all of baseball. Josh Beckett, Carl Crawford, and Adrian Gonzalez — three All-Star players...

Four Real: Red Sox vs Dodgers 8-25-13

Jake Peavy pitched a complete game for Boston on Sunday against the Los Angeles Dodgers. (AP photo Marcio Jose Sanchez) Jan-Christian Sorensen Contributing Writer To be honest, the Dodgers didn’t really get a fair Jake in the Game Three finale of the weekend series out in Los Angeles. Newly acquired hurler Jake Peavy was reminiscent of his 2007 Cy Young award-winning self...
