The Dodgers have designated 34-year old lefty swinging outfielder Jay Gibbons for assignment. Gibbons played in 24 games for the Dodgers this year and he was 14 for 55 (.255 avg, .668 OPS) with 5 runs scored, 1 homer and 5 RBIs. He played in 61 games in parts of two years with the Dodgers and he was 35 for 130 (.269 avg, .755 OPS) with 16 runs scored, 6 homers and 22 RBIs. It will be interesting to see if anyone claims Gibbons on waivers. He was pretty much black balled after the Mitchell Report, so he might be willing to accept a minor league assignment from the Dodgers.
