Joey Votto came into Friday's game 0-for-his-last-13. Votto went 2-for-2 with a two-run home run that was the difference in the game in the Reds' 3-2 victory over the baseball's hottest team the Los Angeles Dodgers Friday night before a crowd of 33778 at Great American Ball Park. "He came through at the right time" Reds manager Dusty Baker said. "That's what the big boys do. You can't hold a good man down too long especially such a talented man and a determined man." Votto was a happy man afterward. "I was trying to put on a little show for the Great 8. I'm sure they weren't watching" he said referring to the starters from 1975-76 World Championship team who were honored after the game. If Votto was the star Friday Mike Leake was the the co-star. Leake also came into Saturday's game struggling. He pitched 7 2/3 inning solid innings for his 12th victory equaling a career-high. Leake allowed two runs on five hits. He walked one and struck out five. He retired 13 in a row and 16 of 17 before giving up a hit to the last batter he faced. Leake (12-6) came in 1-1 with a 7.89 ERA over his last four starts. One of his last six starts was a quality start. The ending was spectacular. Aroldis Chapman struck out the side in the ninth -- Yasiel Puig Adrian Gonzalez and Hanley Ramirez -- for his 35th save. He started the inning by getting fellow Cuban Yasiel Puig on three pitches 99 101 and 102. "He was electric tonight" Baker said. "He got the meat of the order some guys who can hit really hit. He had the best stuff tonight." The Reds are 4-1 on the homestand so far. Leake didn't get off to the kind of start you want. Puig back in the lineup after missing two starts with a bad knee showed his wheels were OK by beating out an infield single with one out in the first. One out later Ramirez crushed a 1-0 92 mph fastball. It ended up about six rows deep into the second deck in left field -- a 432-foot shot -- for his 16th of the season.
