Robin Ventura has been praised most of the season for not only getting the team to respond to him in his first year as the Chicago White Sox's skipper, but also for pulling the right strings at just the right time for his first-place team. His strategic knack was on display again Tuesday in Chicago's 3-2 win over the Toronto Blue Jays, as Ventura instituted his first major shakeup of the season. A night after the White Sox lost an 11-inning game in which their only runs came via Adam Dunn homers, and with the team missing the big presence of cleanup hitter Paul Konerko, Ventura made some changes. Not that the three runs were anything to write home about, but they were enough thanks to the efforts of the new-look lineup. Alejandro De Aza remained the leadoff man, but Dewayne Wise batted second with Alex Rios third. Dunn dropped from third to the cleanup spot, and Kevin Youkilis went from the No. 2 hole to the No. 5 spot. The Sox entered the game third in the major lea...

Adam Dunn Crushes Monster 469-Foot Home Run Off of His Own Face on Scoreboard (Video)

Adam Dunn's resurgent season continued Monday night in a gargantuan way. The Chicago White Sox slugger's most important home run in what would end up being a loss to the Toronto Blue Jays was his game-tying shot in the ninth inning. The homer that everyone should be talking about, though, came earlier in the game. Dunn clobbered a round-tripper in the fourth inning that went...

Kevin Youkilis goes into stands for sweet catch

Although Kevin Youkilis is known more for his bat that his glove, he flashed some excellent leather on Tuesday night at Rogers Centre against the Blue Jays. Youkilis made an inning ending catch in foul territory in the second inning on a foul ball hit hit by David Cooper. The White Sox third baseman tracked down the ball as it was headed towards the third base stands, and made the...

Konerko gets cleared to resume physical activity

The Chicago White Sox's lineup just doesn't look the same when the team captain is out of it. That was evident once again Monday night, as Chicago struggled to score runs in the 3-2, 11-inning loss to the Toronto Blue Jays. That meant Adam Dunn carrying the load with two solo homers, but having to play first base with Paul Konerko out. That meant catcher A.J. Pierzynski...

White Sox 9, Blue Jays 5

Adam Dunn hit his major league-leading 34th home run, Dayan Viciedo and DeWayne Wise also connected and the Chicago White Sox beat the Blue Jays 9-5 on Wednesday night, posting consecutive victories in Toronto for the first time in six years. Gavin Floyd pitched six innings to snap a three-start winless streak as the White Sox won back-to-back games north of the border for the first...

RotoWire MLB Depth Chart Analysis

Rather than discuss the merits of the White Sox's temporary carousel at designated hitter (A.J. Pierzynski and Dayan Viciedo should see the bulk of the time there with Adam Dunn subbing at first), I thought it might be more interesting/useful to take a more macro look at the rest of the season. More specifically, which parks have been the best and worst for hitters of both hands...

The Brent Morel Experiment: Replacing Baseball’s Worst Players

Baseball’s superstars are what make the game fun.  They are often credited for a team’s success and blamed for a loss, but the fact of the matter is that the best players have similar impact as the rest of the guys in the lineup and in their respective rotations.  Baseball is not the NBA wherein usage rates for the games’ best players frequently goes above 40%.  Michael...

Blue Jays 3, White Sox 2(11)

David Cooper singled home the winning run in the 11th inning as the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Chicago White Sox 3-2 on Monday night. Rajai Davis popped out to open the 11th before left-hander Leyson Septimo came on to replace Jesse Crain. After Septimo (0-2) walked Johnson on four pitches, White Sox manager Robin Ventura brought in Nate Jones to face Edwin Encarnacion, whose single...

Pete Incaviglia holds unbreakable NCAA records

In 1999, Pete Incaviglia was voted as the NCAA Player of the Century by Baseball America, beating out Bob Horner and Robin Ventura.  Now that is a distinction to be proud of. Can you imagine being the best in the world at what you’ve done?  In his best season at Oklahoma State, “Inky” batted .464 with 48 home runs and 143 RBI. To put that into context, he did that in only...
