Major League Baseball officially announced their choices for the Hall of Fame. Well, actually, they didn’t announce anyone this year. The big controversy is that baseball writers did not elect a single player for baseball’s highest honor. While I understand the dilemma they faced with names like Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens, there are others who were equally worthy that were passed over for suspicion of PED’s. Names like Curt Schilling, Jeff Bagwell, Craig Biggio and, of course, our beloved Mike Piazza. The news isn’t all bad for Piazza however. He is coming out with a book soon that will deny his involvement with the steroid era. That, in and of itself could boost him over the top this time next year. Until then, the New York Mets have another option for Queens favorite catcher of the last decade. It seems that the Mets Hall of Fame Committee will be meeting before Spring Training to decide on any inductees into the Mets HOF honor. Piazza has a solid chance of making that c...

When His Tenure Ends, Here’s the Man Who Could Replace Bud Selig

Who will replace this man? Since Bud Selig stepped into the ownership ranks of Major League Baseball, he seemed to be everywhere, all the time. Early in his Brewers ownership tenure there didn’t seem to be a committee that he wasn’t on, learning every aspect of the ownership and league structure. But, if there was a defining moment for Selig—one in which he positioned...

Mike Piazza: Guilty By Association

This should have been Piazza’s plaque being added into the Hall of Fame So, like everyone else, I was very disappointed yesterday that Mike Piazza did not get elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame. And what was the reason? We all know that he has the stats during his career to be considered for the Hall. So, why didn’t he get in? Piazza has been put in the group of players who...

Piazza Denied: BBWAA Should Be Ashamed

As everyone knows by now, there will be no players inducted into the Baseball Hall Of Fame this summer. That is a tragedy. I understand not voting in known PED users like Clemens, Bonds, McGwire, etc, but I can't understand the snub Mike Piazza received. Morons like Murray Chass, who claim Piazza did use roids or other Performance Enhancing Drugs because of back acne, are absurd...

Piazza To Deny PED Use in Book

In his first year of eligibility Mike Piazza received 57.8 percent of the vote for the Baseball Hall of Fame. While short of the required 75 percent needed to get in, Piazza’s vote total indicates that he will likely get in at some point. But many believe he wasn’t voted in this year because of … Continue reading »

MMO Flashback: Changing the Dynamic, One Catcher at a Time

With the recent acquisition of Travis d’Arnaud, the Mets added one of the top two catching prospects in the minors, the other being Mike Zunino. Could d’Arnaud be the next great Mets catcher to lead the team to a World Series as Jerry Grote, Gary Carter and Mike Piazza once did? It’s a good question and one that will be answered in the years to come. Catching is the subject...

MLB and Players Agree to In Season HGH Testing

Major League Baseball and the Players Union have agreed to in season blood testing to detect an increase in testosterone. It’s a big step from last year when they only performed blood testing during spring training. Bud Selig was quoted as saying the agreement is a proud day for [...]

Baseball Hall of Fame Results See No New Inductees for 2013 Voted in by BBWAA

Cancel your vacation to Cooperstown. Not one player on the 2013 ballot is getting inducted this year. Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Sammy Sosa and Mike Piazza were among those denied enshrinement into the Baseball Hall of Fame when the voting results were revealed on Wednesday. The Baseball Writers’ Association of America (BBWAA) decided that no one on this year’s ballot was worthy...

d’Arnaud Is d’etermined

“I can’t wait to play [in New York]’’ d’Arnaud added. “It’s great being in a city where baseball is the No. 1 sport. It’s what I grew up with. I’m just really excited. I love this game, it’s treated me very well. … I’m going to keep focused and love the game like I have my whole life and have fun.’’ – Travis d’Arnaud via Kevin Kernan of the NY Post...

MLB Hall of Fame Pitches a Shutout

Dave Winfield HOF Plaque – Photo by ewen and donabel Don’t blame the writers for not voting for a bunch of cheats. Blame Bud Selig for letting it happen. With a ballot that looked like an All-MLB first team from the mid-90s, the candidates put up a goose egg (75.0% or higher needed for induction).  Today, no player was elected in the MLB Hall of Fame.  As a Padres fan we are...
