The 27th President of the United States of America, and the only President to also be a Supreme Court Justice, is on his way back to Washington, DC. The Washington Nationals have selected Taft to become the 5th president of the organization’s mascot race. Unlike during his election in 1909, Taft was a long shot to grab the spot. The odds were 35-1 that he would be chosen to taken on George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and Theodore Roosevelt. It seemed like John F Kennedy was a sure thing, but “Bill” will be running alongside these other titans of the Beltway. Teddy was the last of these great leaders to win a race, and ironically chose Taft. This was quite possibly set by the precedent that Taft was essentially handpicked by Roosevelt to succeed him slightly more than a century ago. “Teddy has handpicked the next president for the Presidents’ Race,” Nationals COO Andy Feffer said late Friday. “There was a great amount of banter and discussion back and forth, but Teddy won out with his recommendation.” Considering Taft was a one-term Commander-in-Chief, one has to wonder if Teddy made this choice knowing that it could make him look [...]
