Robinson Cano can thank the players he grew up watching – Jose Canseco, Rafael Palmeiro, Sammy Sosa, Barry Bonds and the rest of the cheaters.  The suspicion of performance-enhancing drug use still burns rampant when players have big offensive years or careers – especially those that play positions that do not usually generate big power numbers.  Professional ESPN clown Skip Bayless had the gawl to even bring up living legend Derek Jeter as a potential PED-user.

Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano is hands down the best offensive second baseman in the game and has been for three or four years now.  Since 2008, he has averaged 104 runs scored, 197 hits, 29 home runs and 101 RBIs, all while averaging a .313 average.  He’s a stud.  Any baseball mind and even casual fans know this.  But yes, there are Yankees haters around every corner and those that will take every opportunity to bash the Bronx Bombers (when it concerns ARod, it’s almost always valid).

Per Deadspin,  is not a sports reporter, but he is a Mets fan and describes himself on his Twitter account as a “keen observer of NY sports.”   A few weeks ago, he brought PEDs into the Robinson Cano success discussion.  Here’s what he posted in several different tweets:

Can’t confirm this but I’m hearing that Robinson #Cano tested positive for PEDs. Announcement from #MLB coming shortly. #Yankees

Again, expecting announcement from #MLB w/in next few hrs that Robinson #Cano tested positive for PEDs. @incarceratedbob u hear anything?

@JayDRice Sorry man. I’m pretty sure it’s true. #Cano

Come talk to me in a few hours. #Cano RT @BrianSette: @DanTordjman Stick to NASCAR and independence high school football down in Charlotte.

Take a deep breath folks. I stated I “could not confirm” the #Cano PED report. Just.a rumor. Stay tuned. #MLB

Good God. Everyone calm down. Don’t know how clearly I can state it – I HAVE NO CONFIRMATION THAT CANO PED RUMOR IS TRUE.

Yeah, uninformed, irresponsible and downright wrong.  Yes, it’s the baseball world we live in now, but it’s a dirty cheap shot.  Bottom line: the reports were false and Mr. Tordjman had egg on his face.  Today, his company issued an apology:

Reporter Dan Tordjman apologizes for tweeting Robinson Cano PED rumor

Robinson Cano is one of the best players in baseball, and he should be for years to come. When one of the best young players in the game is accused of using performance-enhancing drugs, it’s a major story. Whether the source who reports it is credible or not, any steroid accusation in this day and age is going to get people talking. That’s why Dan Tordjman of WSOC-TV in Charlotte...

Miscellaneous Thoughts As The Postseason Begins

It's the Day Of The Death Game. The Yankees and their fans will be watching the one game playoff tonight in Texas between the Orioles and Rangers. Whichever team wins will host the Yankees in game 1 of the ALDS on Sunday evening at 6:15 Eastern. The game will be televised on TBS.There has been so much talk about the fact that the Yankees, who have the best record in the American...

Give Me Some Crow: Yanks Win AL East, Avoid Death Game

Okay, I'm ready for it. In fact, I'm looking forward to it. Last month, on September 7th to be exact, I posted a near-eulogy for the New York Yankees. With the way they were playing I didn't see how they were going to get one of the Wild Cards, let alone win the AL East. I closed out the piece by saying the following:"I would give almost ANYTHING to be wrong about...

Ichiro Suzuki ready for first playoffs in decade

Joe Girardi says the only thing set for the New York Yankees thus far in the postseason is starting CC Sabathia in Game 1 of the division series. Girardi said before New York worked out Friday night at an eerily quiet Yankee Stadium that there were too many unknowns until the Yankees learned their opponent for Sunday. The Yankees will play on the road the first two games but Mark...

Orioles, Yankees rekindle playoff memories of 1996

Orioles rookie third baseman Manny Machado was a 4-year-old when Baltimore and the New York Yankees last met in the postseason. The year was 1996, a lifetime ago for Orioles fans and a rather meaningless event in the development of Machado, who grew up to become a No. 1 draft pick and a key player in Baltimore's improbable, magnificent 2012 season. Sixteen years after the Yankees...

YES Camera Catches Andruw Jones In Underwear After Yankees Win East

Sorry, ladies, you get porky Andruw Jones in his tighty black underwear instead of Jeter, ARod or Eric Chavez. According to the jersey chasers who were watching live, this undie incident went down during a YES interview with Nick Swisher. Of course there were those chicks who would lower their standards for the chance to do dirty things to the washed up Jones. He only hit .197 and...

Yankees clinch AL East title

The New York Yankees have clinched the AL East title on the final night of the regular season thanks to Baltimore's loss at Tampa Bay. New York went into Wednesday needing a win over Boston or an Orioles loss to wrap up its 13th division crown in 17 years. The Yankees were leading the Red Sox 12-2 in the seventh inning when the final score of Baltimore's 4-1 loss to the...

Yankees vs. Orioles: Picking ALDS favorite

English: New York Yankees at Baltimore Orioles April 24, 2011 (Photo credit: Wikipedia) The New York Yankees found out their opponent in the ALDS will be their AL East division rival Baltimore Orioles. So down to Baltimore they go, to an all-familiar Camden Yards where the Yankees have played, time and time again. The two teams have spilt games this series 9-9, and that pretty much...

Granderson misses share of HR title

Yankees slugger Curtis Granderson had the chance to tie Miguel Cabrera for the AL home run lead on Wednesday but allowed himself to be pulled for a pinch hitter.

Beyond the Box Score: A Brief Q & A with Yankee Prospect Kelvin De Leon.

I had the pleasure of getting to speak briefly with Tampa Yankees’ right fielder, Kelvin De Leon. He was signed by the Yankees as an International Free Agent on the July 2nd signing date in 2007. After a very impressive 2008 campaign in the Dominican Summer League, he made his jump to the United States in 2009 as a member of the Gulf Coast League Yankees. Always...

Yanks beat Red Sox 14-2, win AL East crown

NEW YORK -- By the time their regular season finale ended, all the tension that clung to the New York Yankees as tightly as the Baltimore Orioles had during the stretch run was gone. Instead, the Yankees had clinched their 18th American League East division title shortly before punctuating it with a 14-2 win over the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday night at Yankee Stadium. The 10...

Yankees, Orioles renew rivalry

Orioles rookie third baseman Manny Machado was a 4-year-old when Baltimore and the New York Yankees last met in the postseason. In case the kid needs a quick history lesson, left-hander David Wells won a game for Baltimore, Cecil Fielder and Darryl Strawberry homered for the Yankees, and a youngster named Jeffrey Maier stuck his glove in the middle of the whole thing. The 1996...
