“The Mauler” was robbed at UFC 165, he deserves an immediate rematch against UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones – so claim Alexander Gustafsson’s (pictured) fanboys. Gustafsson might not be saying that verbatim, but he wouldn’t mind arranging a sequel ASAP given the controversy surrounding his (48-47, 48-47, 49-46) unanimous decision defeat to Jones on Saturday night. “I’m down, whenever. I want a rematch right away if I can,” Gustafsson told Fox Sports 1 after the biggest loss of his young career. “It’s up to the UFC. It’s an honor to fight Jones, and I will be ready whenever they call me.” Gustafsson and Jones were both taken to the hospital after their 25-minute instant classic, so neither warrior attended the post-fight press conference. While boos echoed throughout Air Canada Centre in Toronto when the judges’ scorecards were rendered, Gustafsson was far too exhausted physically and mentally to recall if he had done enough to dethrone MMA’s pound-for-pound king. “It’s hard to say [if I won]. I don’t know, but I learned a lot from this fight,” said Gustafsson. “He’s the champ for a reason. To take the belt from the champ, you need to finish him. I didn’t do it and I didn’t get the belt. So, I’m disappointed.” UFC president Dana White said he’s more than happy to arrange an immediate rematch between Jones and Gustafsson. However, he wouldn’t promise a second tango because much will depend upon doctors’ clearance. Saturday marked Gustafsson’s first defeat since getting submitted by now-teammate Phil Davis in April 2010. Jones, meanwhile, became the most UFC most decorated light heavyweight champion by scoring his six consecutive title defense.
