Fanboys from across the globe went nuts when UFC welterweight BJ Penn (Pictured) decided to cut his retirement short and return to the Octagon. However, it appears the 33-year-old’s comeback could be short-lived. In fact, Penn might be one and done.

“I’m not thinking of any type of title run right now,” Penn revealed on his official website. “I’m just coming back doing this fight.

“I’m pretty sure this is the last fight on my contract. I have to go back and check again, but I think this is the last fight on my contract and I’d like to finish out my contract also.”

One of the saddest sights in professional sports is when an athlete desperately tries to hang on for too long, and fighters get exposed quicker and more viciously than in any other game. That clearly won’t be Penn’s case because he was content on riding off into the Hawaiian sunset until Rory MacDonald came calling.

While scraps against Strikeforce lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez and Josh Koscheck weren’t enough to pique his interest, a shot at halting the skyrocketing 22-year-old’s ascent was a task he was more than willing to take on.

“I think this is definitely a great challenge and a great test,” Penn expressed. “I’m definitely motivated for this fight. I like everything that is going on with this fight. Rory is one of the best guys. [Trainer Firas Zahabi] and everybody say he’ll be a champ in two years.”

Penn holds a 16-8-2 professional mark and is the only fighter in UFC history to don the welterweight and lightweight titles.

“The Prodigy” and MacDonald are set to co-headline UFC 152 on September 22nd.
