The employment news hasn’t been all bad for American Kickboxing Academy this week. Despite seeing teammate Jon Fitch get cut from the UFC on Wednesday, heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez (Pictured) was rewarded with an eight-fight contract extension to remain with the planet’s premier mixed martial arts promotion.
Velasquez still had three scraps remaining on his previous deal with the UFC.
“We always try to do the right thing,” White said. “I have three fights left with Cain Velasquez. We just signed a new eight-fight deal with Cain. We re-signed him. I didn’t have to do that. He deserved it and we did it.”
Velasquez owns a practically perfect 11-1 professional record. He avenged the lone blemish on his résumé by steamrolling Junior dos Santos to reclaim the title.
The 30-year-old breaks in his new contract against Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva at UFC 160.
