As the old adage goes, “Absence makes the heart grow fonder.” That’s what UFC president Dana White is banking on when Anderson Silva (pictured) starts missing the bling-bling belt that has hung above his mantle for the past seven years. While Silva claimed he was not interested in a rematch with freshly minted middleweight king Chris Weidman after getting knocked unconscious at UFC 162, White believes the Octagon’s most decorated champ will come around once the cobwebs clear. “Anderson Silva needs to go home, hang out with his family, take a week or two to shake this thing off,” White stated following Saturday’s press conference. “There’s times when guys will win a fight, and they don’t want to talk for three weeks. It’s really part of the process, it really is, and especially a big night like tonight. “And when you lose the way that he lost, there’s a process for this. You’ve just got to wait for Anderson to ride this thing out.” Despite being just a 2-1 underdog against Silva, White believes Weidman still pulled off one of the biggest upsets in UFC history given “The Spider’s” untouchable résumé. That’s another reason why White thinks Silva will change course regarding a sequel. “Nobody wants to lose, and he doesn’t know how to lose,” White said. “He doesn’t remember how to lose. It’s been too long since he’s lost. This one’s going to sink in a couple days after. “Everybody knows. I know. He’s gonna want the rematch. Anderson plays a lot of things off in public – he went on this amazing win streak because he’s an amazing competitor and he’s an amazing talent – he’s gonna want to redeem himself.” Finally, White likened the absence of having the UFC hardware to Cinderella’s hit song “Don’t Know What You Got (Till It’s Gone)” as to why Silva will want to arrange Part II. “If you do things the right way and you’re smart, that belt is the key to many, many [expletive] things in life,” White expressed. “And when you’re the champ, you feel it. And when you’re not, you feel it. Especially if you’ve had it and lost it. And Anderson will go home, take a couple of weeks, maybe it won’t even take a couple of weeks, and he’s gonna be like, ‘I want that [expletive] belt back.’ “When a guy starts to realize he might never get that belt back or even get near it again, it’s a [expletive] feeling. He’s got it worse than anybody – ‘The greatest fighter of all-time and I don’t have my belt? I want my belt back.’ White even shared his thought bubble on when a perfect date would be to arrange the rematch. “How about Super Bowl Saturday, in New Jersey [Weidman's hometown], where FOX has the Super Bowl? Just thinking off the top of my head here,” White said with a smirk on his face.
