A match-up between top welterweights Jon Fitch and Demian Maia has been added to UFC 156 on February 2nd. UFC officials confirmed the bout on Thursday evening stated that the fighters have verbally agreed to meet at the Super Bowl weekend event. Maia (17-4), a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt, has gone 2-0 since dropping down from middleweight to compete as a welterweight. In his most recent outing at UFC 153, Maia scored a first round submission win over Rick Story. He has recorded nine of his career wins by submission. Fitch (24-4-1), a former title challenger, is coming off a “Fight of the Night” effort in a decision win over Erick Silva at UFC 153. Fitch also holds notable wins over Thiago Alves, Paulo Thiago and Diego Sanchez. UFC 156, which will be held in Las Vegas, will be headlined by a featherweight title between champion Jose Aldo and challenger Frankie Edgar.
