Frankie Edgar (Pictured) can’t wait to put 2012 in his rear-view mirror. After ending his 2011 campaign in championship style by solidifying his spot as the planet’s top lightweight, Edgar lost his UFC title to Benson Henderson this February and failed to recapture his crown in April’s instant rematch.

Both of his defeats to Bendo were of the controversial decision variety, particularly their last tango where most believed Edgar did more than enough to win. UFC president Dana White made it clear Edgar wouldn’t get another crack at the 155-pound hardware for quite some time, so “The Answer” begrudgingly decided to shed 10 pounds and transition to featherweight.

Lady Luck’s loyalty seemed to swing in Edgar’s favor once he made the move. He was granted an immediate title shot after Erik Koch was forced out of UFC 153 with an injury. Edgar was more than happy to slide in and challenge 145-pound king Jose Aldo for his crown on last-minute’s notice.

Unfortunately for Edgar, the injury bug came storming in Tuesday and took a bite out of Aldo. And just like that, the most anticipated featherweight fight in mixed martial arts history evaporated like a fart in the wind. White claims Edgar is in shambles.

“Frankie Edgar is devastated right now,” White told Yahoo! Sports. “He comes off that controversial loss of his last fight, gets another title shot, steps up to the plate, starts investing in another camp, spending money to train again and now Aldo’s hurt.

“This kid can’t catch a break. Everybody was pumped up for Frankie vs. Aldo.”

It is believed Edgar will remain in the October 13th lineup, as the promotion is scouring its roster for a suitable replacement. Regardless, no Aldo means no chance at the hardware, and this steak now has no sizzle.
