PLAYERS: Dana White
When it comes to MMA referees, Kim Winslow is about as incompetent as they come – just ask UFC president Dana White. Yet, there she was once again as the third person inside the Octagon on Saturday night. Did Winslow miss Cat Zingano’s illegal knee to a grounded Miesha Tate (pictured)? “Cupcake” claims possibly. Did Winslow pull the trigger too quickly in halting Zingano’s assault? Tate states definitely. “I’m pissed to say the least,” an irritated Tate said at the post-fight press conference. “I’m definitely not happy. I mean, [expletive], I still feel like I was in the fight. I don’t for one second feel like it should have been stopped. “I’m a fighter and I wanted to keep fighting.” Although their scrap was competitive throughout, Tate seemingly won the opening two rounds and appeared on her way to scoring coaching duties on “The Ultimate Fighter 18″ opposite bitter rival Ronda Rousey and next dibs at her throne. However, Zingano, the UFC’s first mother, came out like a house on fire in the final frame. She had Tate dazed and confused with a barrage of punches, elbows and knees to the dome. Tate’s bloodied face likely didn’t help her cause in the stoppage. “Kim came in and told me before we ever left the locker room that, ‘If I warn you to move, all I need to know is that you want to stay in the fight,’” Tate shared. “I felt that I did that. I got from the bottom, up. I got kneed a few times on the way. I tried to shoot another shot, and the fight was stopped. “I sat up. I shot a double [-leg takedown]. I got to my feet. I took some damage because of that, because I was trying to listen to the referee, and she [expletive] stopped the fight. [Winslow] told me to, ‘Show me something.’ I don’t know what you want?” Although White has blasted Winslow’s skills as a ref in the past, he didn’t argue with this particular stoppage. “You know me. If I didn’t think the refs did a good job, I’d tell you,” White admitted following the presser. “They did a good job tonight.”
