With all of the hype surrounding the first women's fight in UFC history some important moments have been going unnoticed. For instance, I feel like Court McGee's welterweight debut hasn't been getting enough attention We were told that McGee had broken the welterweight significant strike record previously held by Nick Diaz this past Saturday night. Stockton's finest used B.J. Penn's leatherface as his own personal punching bag, landing 178 strikes over the span of 15 minutes at UFC 137. Upon second look over at fightmetric it appears that McGee fell just short of that mark. Nonetheless, McGee's 166 significant strikes was not only impressive for a welterweight debut, it's was a performance of the statement making variety. It was something you'd maybe expect from a veteran like Nick Diaz, or even a Georges St. Pierre. Remember the jab clinic St. Pierre put on Koscheck's eye back at UFC 124? "Rush" landed 42% of his 259 attempted significant strikes on an opponent in Koscheck who couldn't see for half of their five round championship fight. McGee's insane output against Josh Neer in a three round fight saw "The Crusher" land 50% of his 334 attempted sig. strikes, thus sending a message to anyone who weighs in at 170 pounds heading into fight night.  Dropping from the 185 pound division, where he had plenty of success as TUF season 11 champion, McGee's improved speed at 170 pounds combined with his already large frame makes him a threat wherever the fight begins, and ends. One also cannot express the importance of having John Hackleman in your corner. Hack not only provides his fighters with his dangerous brand of Kempo training at "The Pit," he also gives that calming corner strategy that makes him one of the best assets in the sport today. If McGee continues to perform like he did against a dangerous finisher like Josh Neer at UFC 157 the sky is the limit for the 'Beehive State' standout.
