A middleweight shootout between Cung Le (Pictured) and Patrick Cote was the fourth bout to air in Saturday’s “UFC 148: Silva vs. Sonnen II” pay-per-view broadcast.

Nine fights are in the record books, and seven of them have gone to the scorecards. Le vs. Cote was the most entertaining of the scraps that have gone the distance, as the other decisions were fairly uneventful.

Le is the first significant longshot to come through. The former Strikeforce middleweight champion was nearly a 2-to-1 underdog against the Canadian.

MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada is hosting tonight’s festivities. The show is headlined by the highly-anticipated rematch between middleweight king Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen.

Cung Le +180
Patrick Cote -230

Here is the play-by-play from Le vs. Cote:

1stRound:

Le throws him to the mat for a moment, but lets Cote back up. The middleweights exchange body kicks. Cote charges ahead and eats a punch to the back of the head for his troubles. No warning from referee Josh Rosenthal. Le is doing a good job of keeping his opponent at bay with his kicks.

2ndRound:

Le lands a spinning wheel kick. Cote answers with a flurry, his first points of the tango. Both fighters are cut – Le by his left eye and Cote on the top of his head. Le tags him with a left hook. Le connects on a spinning kick to the midsection. Cote tags him with a one-two combination. Le clobbers him with a right punch-knee combo. Cote is landing solid body shots in the clinch. Tight round to score. Cote, 10-9.

3rdRound:

This scrap is up for grabs, at least on my unofficial card. Cote has him clinched against the cage. The Canadian clocks Le with a spinning back fist as they separate. Le appears much more winded of the two. Le throws him to the ground for a split second. Cote tries to return the favor, but gets denied. Le lands some punches to the dome and scores a takedown. That may have won him the contest. Le, 10-9, and takes the scrap, 29-28.

Official Result:

Cung Le Defeated Patrick Cote via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
