A welterweight battle between Erick Silva and Jay Hieron has been added to UFC 156 according to UFC officials on Wednesday. Hieron (23-6) returned to the UFC in October at UFC on FX 5 where he was outpointed by Jake Ellenberger. A nine year veteran Hieron has competed in many leading promotions including the WEC, Strikeforce and Bellator. While fighting for Bellator he won their Season 4 welterweight tournament which earned him a title shot against champion Ben Askren. He would fall via split decision to Askren at Bellator 56 which snapped his ten fight winning streak. Silva (14-3) will look to rebound from a unanimous decision loss to Jon Fitch at UFC 153. Silva, a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and judo, is the former welterweight champion for Jungle Fights. He holds wins over Luis Ramos and Charlie Brenneman inside the octagon. UFC 156 takes place on February 2nd from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo will put his title on the line against former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar. Also scheduled is a heavyweight clash between Alistair Overeem and Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva. UFC 156 adds welterweights Jay Hieron vs. Erick Silva is a post from: MMA Interplay UFC News
