On Tuesday afternoon, the UFC’s Brazilian Twitter account announced an undisclosed injury has forced Yoshihiro Akiyama out of his UFC 149 shootout against Thiago Alves (Pictured). Now worries, because slugger Siyar Bahadurzada has agreed to serve as substitute on July 21st.
Bahadurzada made quite the splash in his big league debut at “UFC on FUEL TV 2″ by putting Paulo Thiago to sleep in just 42 seconds. The ‘Knockout of the Night’ performance marked the welterweight’s seventh consecutive victory.
Alves is looking to rebound from a disappointing submission loss to Martin Kampmann. After dominating much of their standup affair, the former top contender inexplicably attempted a takedown in the closing seconds of their shootout and found himself on the wrong end of a Hail Mary.
Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada hosts the festivities. A featherweight title tilt between champion Jose Aldo and Erik Koch headlines the show.
