FONTANA, CA - OCTOBER 09: Greg Biffle, driver of the #16 3M/Scotch-Blue Ford prepares to drive during practice for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Pepsi 500 at Auto Club Speedway on October 9, 2009 in Fontana, California. (Photo by Stephen Dunn/Getty Images)

1: Greg Biffle

Let’s face it, Biffle is off to his best start ever. He has been the exquisite definition of consistency, racking up an eye-popping 5 Top 5′s through the first 8 races, including his win at Texas Motor Speedway. No. 16 continues to dominate on paper as well as on the track, as he STILL leads in the points. Amazing, right? Keep up the great work “Biff”.

2: Denny Hamlin

The driver of the #11 FedEx car is coming off a huge win and may have all the moment in the world right now. Hamlin has took the checkers twice so far, one at Kansas and the other at Phoenix. Watch out race fans, please just watchout for this cat.

3: Martin Truex Jr.

Woah, weird seeing Truex this high? Well, he definitely deserve’s it. He has been surprisingly great this season. Speaking of great, what about his performance at Kansas? Martin delivered probably the best race of his young career, leading 173 laps and finishing 2nd to Denny Hamlin. Just an all around magnificent run.  Truex also jumped Dale Jr. and Kenseth in the standings into 2nd  place. Talked about or not he has got the job done.

4: Matt Kenseth

Kenseth has followed up his second Daytona 500 victory with 4 Top 5 finishes, second to none. Matt lead 2 laps on his way to a superb, 4th place finish at Kansas. Make that five Top 5′s, five Top 10′s, 1 win, and a 3rd place point position. I’m a little jealous.

5: Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Ahh, good ol’ Dale Jr. Dale may still by winless, but he has looked awfully impressive thus far. The fan-favorite reeled home a comfortable, 7th place finish Kansas, a track he has had pretty good success on. Two straight 3rd place finish’s at Richmond and Texas have been the sunshine on Dale Jr’s season so far.

6: Jimmie Johnson

Mr. 5-time has been incredible in 2012, to say the least. Johnson currently sits 7th in the points with his five Top 5′s and six Top 10′s (tied for league lead). Not so fast Johnson, there’s about 30 races to go before we can crown you for the 6th time in seven years.

7: Tony Stewart

After wining the Kobalt Tools 400 and the Auto Club 400, Stewart has cooled off with two straight finishes outside of the Top 10. But he does have the two W’s, which happens to be extremely important in Smoke’s quest to defend his Sprint Cup Championship.

8: Ryan Newman

Newman, the second member of Stewart-Haas racing, has enjoyed a nice season so far. Ryan enters Week 9 10th in points. Although Kansas was not all that kind to him (20th place finish), Newman still has the swagger that won him the Goody’s Fast Relief 500 at Bristol.

9: Kevin Harvick

Harvick is coming off an excellent performance at Kansas, in which he finished 6th. Coincidentally he sits 6th in the points,  25 behind Greg Biffle. Kevin does not a win to his credit thus far, but he has a pretty good shot to change that come this Sunday at Talledega.

10: Carl Edwards

61 points behind 1st, in 9th place sits Cousin Carl. After two Top 5 finish’s and a solid 9th place finishing at Kansas, Edwards has established himself as Mr. consistent this year. He will need a nice race at ‘Dega, a track that has not been his friend, to stay in the Top 10.
