Former NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Matt Kenseth is replacing Denny Hamlin in the Thursday, April 25, Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown presented by FedEx at Richmond International Raceway. The race serves as a fundraiser for the Denny Hamlin Cystic Fibrosis Research Lab at the Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU. “Obviously, it kills me to not be able to race in the Short Track Showdown,” said Hamlin. “I grew up racing these cars against some of the best in the area, and it’s always fun to come back and do it again, but my injury won’t allow that this year. Matt has been a great teammate since coming to Joe Gibbs Racing, and I have to thank him for stepping in for me in this race. There’s a great list of drivers in this year’s field, and I know they’ll put on an awesome show for the fans at RIR.” “I'm honored that Denny asked me to fill his seat at his annual Short Track Showdown,” said Kenseth. “It's a good event for a great cause and I know that it won't be easy for him to sit out his own charity race. We'll have a good time raising some money for the Denny Hamlin Foundation. I just hope some of Denny's magic at Richmond comes with the number on the side of the car.” Kenseth is joined by many other celebrity drivers who will compete with some of the best Late Model Stock Car drivers in the region. Competing in the Thursday night shootout: Kyle Busch Tony Stewart Matt Kenseth Michael Waltrip Ricky Stenhouse Jr. Trevor Bayne Regan Smith Darrell Wallace Jr. Gray Gaulding Max Papis Kyle Larson Curtis Markham C.E. Faulk The Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown at RIR has brought some of the best late model racing action to Hamlin’s hometown track for the past two years and is sure to provide another great show for fans who come out to support cystic fibrosis research. Hamlin, team adjust to changes

For Denny Hamlin and his team, it has to be frustrating to have different drivers in this stretch of NASCAR Sprint Cup races while the driver is sidelined healing from a back injury. With Denny you have a driver that is hurt but isn't hurt. Let me explain. Having a driver that is in the hospital or hurting so bad that he has to be at home in bed is one thing. To have a driver...

Martinsville was a thrill ride

I know if someone didn't watch Sunday's race at Martinsville Speedway but looked at the box score that showed Jimmie Johnson, Kyle Busch and Matt Kenseth led 498 of the 500 laps, they probably would say to themselves it wasn't much of a race. I would disagree because I think we had some really great racing on Sunday. It may not have always been for the lead but we had...

Upcoming tracks will appear in Chase

Starting last Sunday at Martinsville Speedway, and running through the end of our NASCAR on FOX broadcasts for 2013 at Dover International Speedway on June 2, the majority of the races will play a major role in determining who our 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup champion will be. Six of those eight tracks appear on the schedule a second time during the Chase for the Sprint Cup, which starts...

RotoWire NASCAR Barometer Texas

Hendrick Motorsports and Joe Gibbs Racing were the two teams that dominated Sunday's running at Martinsville Speedway. Jimmie Johnson started from pole position, and Matt Kenseth was the main charger from Gibbs who shared time out front. While there was plenty of bumping and banging back in the field, the leaders ran cleanly, and encountered very little trouble. Johnson scored...

VICKERS BEHIND THE WHEEL FOR HAMLIN IN TEXAS: Not only will Brian Vickers be piloting his familiar yellow and black No. 20 Dollar General Nationwide Series car this weekend, but the 29-year-old will also be at the helm of Joe Gibbs Racing’s No. 11 Sprint Cup Series car. Super Sub

Mark Martin wasn't impressed with his own performance, but, after starting 35th, he still managed to post a top 10 subbing for four-time Martinsville winner Denny Hamlin, who is sidelined with a compression fracture in his first lumbar vertebra. Martin fought the handling of his No. 11 Toyota Camry, losing a lap at one point, but he rallied for a 10th-place finish, good enough...
