Bristol, TN- Quick who had Joey Logano ahead of Brad Keselowski in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series standings with just two races left before the Chase for the Sprint Cup title starts? I’ll bet no one did. In fact, that’s where we stand with just Atlanta and Richmond remaining on the Sprint Cup schedule before the Chase starts and if it started today Logano would be in and defending series champ Keselowski would be on the outside looking in. Just two weeks ago Logano sat 16th in the standings while his Penske Racing teammate Keselowski was eighth. Logano sat on the pole in record fashion at Michigan and won the race giving him a good chance at making the Chase as a wildcard. The series headed to Bristol where Keselowski won two of the previous three races and finished third back in the spring. Logano on the other hand has never had success there and looked like he would fade back to normalcy leaving Tennessee. But after 500 laps of action Saturday night, the exact opposite happened. Logano got caught up early in an incident with Kyle Busch exiting Turn 4. He had to make repairs most of the night and didn’t return to the front until the final 100 laps. That’s the same time frame where it all went down hill for Keselwoski. The momentum shifted for the duo then. Keselowski while running near the top 10 got caught up in an incident with several other Chase contenders and his night was done. His crew got the No. 2 Miller Lite Ford repaired but he had to settle for a 30th place finish. Logano on the otherhand had a hardfought fifth place finish to move up to 10th in the standings while Keselowski was bounced out and now sits 11th. If Keselowski can get into the top 10 there’s a good chance Penske gets both cars in the Chase since Logano has a victory and is 26 points ahead of the final wildcard spot. What a weird turn of events for Penske as Logano is now the breadwinner for this team in 2013. Eric Smith is the Lead Motorsports Writer for Race Review Online.
