There was a time not long ago where the name Earnhardt was synonymous with winning, and it was quite a safe bet that by the end of any given race, the man in victory lane would have that very last name.
However for the past three-plus seasons Dale Earnhardt, Jr. has rolled snake eyes in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.
It’s not that Earnhardt hasn’t been close. In the 131 races since he last reached victory lane, Earnhardt has devastatingly finished second six times. Last season he had several chances at victory, but fuel mileage (Charlotte), a hungry Kevin Harvick (Martinsville) and Brad Keselowski’s incredible ability to save gas (Kansas) kept him shut out of victory lane for yet another year.
This weekend NASCAR’s premier division is in Las Vegas and it appears that maybe it’s time for NASCAR’s most popular driver to finally find some luck.
