Bleacher Report:
When Andre Collins, the lone soul standing between Petteri Koponen and the starting point guard position for Virtus Bologna, went down with a hand injury, spontaneous celebration broke out in the streets of Espoo. Finally, Koponen would get to hold the reigns. No more playing out of position. No more hindrances to his development.
This was the opportunity Koponen and his dedicated followers (known as Finnaglerphiles) had been hoping for all along.
It wasn't meant to be. Not yet:
To replace the injured Andre Collins (183-G-82, college: Loyola, MD) (broken bone in a hand, out for some months), Virtus Bologna agreed to terms with James 'Scoonie' Penn (178-G-77, college:Ohio St.), who is expected to join the team on next tuesday, just in time to play the Italy SuperCup on Sunday, October 4.
You may remember Scoonie Penn from his college days at The Ohio State University where he and Michael Redd made things look easy. Penn has earned a solid reputation in Europe and will be ...

Brandon Roy senses a more focused Blazers team

Some National Respect for #7…
Over at Ball Don’t Lie, Kelly Dwyer with another one of his top 10 lists, this one naming the 10 best shooting guards of the last decade. Coming in at #8? None other than Mr. Brandon Roy. I’m not going to do a cut-and-paste job on that work but let’s just say he’s (deservedly) mentioned [...]
The Portland Point Guard Battle
Sometimes in the NBA, deciding who’s going to start and who’s not is already predetermined. We all know who’s starting at the two-guard position for the Lakers and we know who’s the starting point guard down in New Orleans. But for the Portland Trailblazers’ point guard slot, it’s not that cut and dry. Last season, [...]

It seemed that the Portland Trail blazers were destined to become the off season’s NBA version of the Biggest Losers. Media Day Kicks Off Week
To me, this is always an odd way to kick off the first official week of the NBA season. Every team does it, and it's very necessary, but it's still a bit of a strange day. But, then again, I always thought it was weird that we had picture day during the first week of school. My son has picture day tomorrow in pre-school, by the way, and the odds are very good that he'll shine the...

Blazers Media Day Links—Day Two
There is a ton of coverage from today's media outing with the Blazers players. I am both proud and jealous of the guys who get to cover the team for a living. For now, I will just continue to crunch numbers and bite the bullet. Here's some linkage from all over the place.
Mike Barrett reflects on previous media days and what today means to this organization.
Here's a...
