What if Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Jason Terry retired after the season? They would have almost 30 million dollars in extra cap space and they could conceivably rebuild in less than a year. The biggest need the Celtics have is at the center position and the available free agents include Minnesota Timberwolves’ big man, Nikola Pekovic, who is a restricted free at the end of the season. Another name to mention is Spurs’ center, Tiago Splitter, who has been a key role player for the Spurs since he came over from Brazil. Pekovic can provide a post presence and might be available at $11 million per year. Splitter will cost less than that, but the Spurs will have room to resign him with Manu Ginobili and Stephen Jackson unrestricted free agents and the latter likely done in San Antonio. The Celtics could also target Philadelphia center, Andrew Bynum who has been plagued by injuries, if he were to be accept one year deal for a reasonable price, which is unlikely.
