#18, Dave Cowens
Marc Stein's weekly NBA power rankings on ESPN have just come out, and the Celtics find themselves in a free fall all the way down to the 18th spot (from #14 last week). While it's hard to fathom that there could really be 17 teams in the league better than Boston at the moment, looking up and down the list I don't have any major gripes. At 12-11 the C's probably should be ahead of the 11-14 Lakers (#15), but LA is on a two game winning streak and coming off an impressive victory in Philly last night.
Despite a tough west coast trip in their near future, I'm going to go out on a limb and predict this as a season low for the Celtics.

We’ve been waiting for word as to when Avery Bradley would be ready to get back onto the floor.
Well, the word has come. And that when is today.
Celtics guard Avery Bradley, sidelined since mid May due to shoulder issues that required a pair of offseason surgeries, is scheduled to engage in contact activities for the first time during the team’s offday workout on Monday in...
We covered much of Paul Pierce’s work so far over the weekend, but against San Antonio, he showed us a way that he could probably be utilized more as the season progresses. When the Celtics use Pierce in Off Screen plays, he has been pretty average. His efficiency isn’t elite — 0.86 PPP, good for 23rd in the NBA — but it’s sufficient. What’s surprising is that Off Screen...
According to the official Twitter of the Boston Celtics, guard Avery Bradley will practice with the C’s today in Chicago for the first time this season. Again, not as much fun as when the Celtics win but still, some good stuff. Boy, Spurs fans hate Jason Terry, just like the Rockets fans did. I guess all those years in Dallas didn't endear him to the other Texas teams. I find it ridiculous that Spurs fans were complaining about the fouls. They had 9 free throws at the half while the Celtics had just 2 from defensive 3...
Despite being more than two full months away from the trade deadline, the speculation has already started.
No surprise here, the Celtics might be in the market for a big man. David Aldridge has this nugget:
Celts may want another big
Lee agreed to four-year, $21 million contract in a sign-and-trade deal that sent him from Houston to Boston in a three-way trade also involving Portland...
With a slew of veterans with varying levels of experience, the Boston Celtics have the appearance of a veteran team.
But as Celtics coach Doc Rivers points out, there’s more to having a veteran team than simply throwing together a bunch of guys who have been around the NBA block a few times.
“Where I think people get mixed up, there’s a difference between a veteran team and...

Does someone else need to start scoring?
After the Celtics 95-94 OT loss in Philly a little over a week ago, Magic Johnson said something on the ESPN post-game show that has stuck with me. Magic stated that in order for Boston to contend, Rajon Rondo was going to have to score 20-25 points a game. While I don't believe Rondo is about to be that guy, I am starting to wonder...
Avery Bradley may want to get fitted for a white 10-gallon hat, or maybe blue tights and a red cape, because if he truly ends up rescuing the Celtics from their current defensive crisis, it will be a feat worthy of the Lone Ranger or Superman.
When the Thunder visited Boston last month, Oklahoma City coach Scott Brooks could not find enough nice things to say about Bradley. The third...

For those of you who are new to TSHQ, first of all welcome. Grab a seat. Would you like a drink? I believe K.M. Venne and Cole Zwicker were just discussing the intricacies of JaVale McGee’s self-indulgent retweets of himself over a fine burbon whiskey. Toward the early days of this sites inception onto the world wide web I penned a short article about why Rajon Rondo was more important...

The Spurs Gary Neal and the Celtics Doc Rivers, Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Jason Terry talk after Saturday night's game.
To win in the NBA, it takes effort. The Boston Celtics did not bring enough effort, losing to the Chicago Bulls, 100-89.
The Celtics were able to keep things close through three quarters, but let things get away from them in the final frame.
There was just a supreme lack of defensive intensity all night, as the Bulls scored 24-plus points in all four quarters. The Bulls were quicker...
