With Rondo back on the court for the Celtics, they got an easy win over their divisional foe, the Toronto Raptors. They started out hot in the first quarter, shooting an incredible 74% for the quarter finishing the quarter with a 30-17 lead. They allowed the Raptors to come back in the second quarter and finished the half with just a 5 point lead. The Raptors would come as close as to tie the game in the third but never took the lead. The Celtics then regained their composure and took over for the 107-89 win and some fun Gino time for KG. (AP Photo/Michael Dwyer) Rondo returned from his one game absence and showed no ill effects. He said that the ankle was 79% but that it should be 94% by tomorrow night's game. There he goes with that math again. He finished with 6 points, 20 assists, 2 rebounds and 1 steal for which he received today's Tommy Award. His 32 minutes was a team high for the Celtics. When asked about the streak, he had this to say, " It's something I look forward to every game. I try to make my teammates happy. Somehow I keep getting 10." Jason Terry once again started at the shooting guard spot and had a game high 20 points to go with 32 rebounds and 2 assists. He was 7-10 from the field and 4-7 from beyond the arc. When asked about Rondo's return, he said it made all the difference and felt that had Rondo played against the Nets, they would have won that game as well. Paul Pierce had his typical quiet 19 points along with 6 rebounds and 2 assists. He had one dunk that posterized the Raptors' young center, Jonas Valanciunas. KG finished with 15 points and 5 rebounds in just 17 minutes. And, he was seen having lots of fun when Gino made his appearance. Brandon Bass rounded out the starting 5 and finished with 6 points, 4 rebounds, 2 blocks. Off the bench, Jared Sullinger was a beast in this game. He finished with a double double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, 4 of which came on the offensive end. Chris Wilcox was also great in this game, connecting with Rondo for 3 alley oop dunks and finishing with 8 points, 2 rebounds and an assist. Jeff Green again was solid but with 9 points 2 rebounds and 2 assists but Celtics fans are still waiting for more from him. (AP Photo/Michael Dwyer) Courtney Lee is finding many ways to contribute finishing with 4 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals. In the last game he had a team high 9 rebounds. Leandro Barbosa finished with 8 points and 3 assists as he played the point when Rondo got a break. Leandro (or Leonardo, as Tommy called him) got some very high praise from Tommy during this game. On Leandro Barbosa: "He's really reaching the status of Walter. I'm becoming infatuated." #Leonardo — Tommy Heinsohn (@CSNTommy) November 17, 2012 . The Celtics as a team had a team high 37 assists in this game. When the ball moves, it makes the game so much easier. They also out-rebounded the Raptors 37-35. Let's hope that's a trend they are starting rather than it being a one time occurrence. Turnovers have been a problem for the Celtics but they kept them to just 13 in this game. After that 74% first quarter, the Celtics cooled down to 57% for the game. They held the Raptors to 43% from the field. Things are starting to come together for the Celtics. They had great chemistry in this game and addressed areas that had been a problem for them in the past like turnovers and rebounding. The second unit came through and showed the depth that Celtics fans had been expecting from them this season. After the game they boarded a plane for Detroit where they will play tomorrow night. Game time will be 7:30. [Discuss on CG Forums!]
