Found April 22, 2013 on Red's Army:
How can the Celtics eliminate some of their sloppy turnovers in half-court sets? By staying out of half-court sets: “Some of those easy opportunities have to come in transition,” said Pierce. “Kicking the ball ahead to myself, Jeff [Green] is something we want to emphasize. We feel like if we can get the ball up and advance passes before the defense, it says it gives us an opportunity to get easy baskets. The more we get stops the more opportunities there are for that.” The Celtics have had a strained relationship with the fast break this season. On one hand, they played some of their best basketball by pushing the tempo during a seven-game win streak after Rajon Rondo went down. They averaged 105 points during the streak (two of the games went to multiple overtimes) compared with their season average of 96.5 points. The Celtics had 20 turnovers Saturday, but most of them came in the half-court, not in transition. The Celtics might do well to push the pace Tuesday night. On the othe...

Jeff Green wants to do it all

“I’ve just got to do it,” Green said before the team’s morning shootaround at Madison Square Garden. “I’ve just go to play through the fatigue. I’ve got to continue to look for mine, basically. There’s no excuses now. I want to be out there, I want to compete. I want to play against the best, I want to guard Carmelo, I want to do it all. It’s just something I...

Can the Celtics offense succeed by running more?

When Boston posted just 25 points in the second half of Saturday's 85-78 Game 1 loss, it brought to life my (and pretty much everyone else's) concerns about the C's playoff offense without Rajon Rondo.  Lacking a true point guard they need to find more ways to create scoring opportunities, and the simplest way to do that is to run.  Said Paul Pierce on Monday (via Gary...

Your Morning Dump… Where Jordan Crawford could get more minutes tonight

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. “I thought he was good,” Rivers said. “He stayed in his lane, let’s put it that way. He didn’t go outside of it. Usually guys in their first [playoff] game, they do one or the other. Some guys don’t...

A Celtic received a Sixth Man of the Year Award, you'll never guess who

One of the Boston Celtics received a Sixth Man of the Year Award and you may be surprised who it was. Either somebody really likes Jordan Crawford's game or they meant his older brother Jamal, but one of the newest Celtics was voted the best player off the bench in the NBA. Nothing against Jordan Crawford, but it's hard to say a guy who didn't spend the whole year on...

Celtics Seeking Revenge in Game 2

After the sloppy play featured in the second half of the series opener, Paul Pierce and the Boston Celtics will look to redeem themselves in Game 2 this evening at MSG. Turnovers plagued the Celtics late in Game 1 but the atrocious efforts put forth by the bench are what ultimately did them in. While Carmelo Anthony led the way with 36 points, it was the New York Knicks bench that...

Reasons for optimism

The Celtics managed only 8 points in the 4th quarter last night, and just 25 total in the second half. For the game Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce combined to shoot 10-27 from the field, 37%. The bench scored just 4 points without making a field goal (0-7), including 0-4 3PT from Jason Terry. Boston's reserves also failed to register a single assist. The Celtics turned the ball...

Update on the Celtics/Knicks ticket auction - Over $500 raised!

Last week after the marathon bombings, CelticsLife (plus PatriotsLife, Red Sox Life and BruinsLife) shared a link to the Children's Hospital Boston wish list (the list is still up and worth a look). Children's was caring for nine kids that got injured in the bombings, and the wish list was for toys and games that the kids can use during their time there. A friend of mine...

Poor Second Half Performance Condemns Celtics To Defeat Against The Knicks In Game 1

Photo credit: Debbie Wong/USA Today Sports Turnovers And Poor Offense Cost Celtics After a traumatic week for the people of Boston, it was understandable that they would turn to their beloved sports teams for comfort and inspiration. The Boston Celtics nearly provided it. They were so close. So damn close. On Saturday night, the Celts found themselves in a situation they had been...

Live Game Updates - Game 2

8:40: With one minute left in the first quarter tonight, the Celtics led 20-17. But now, after the first buzzer has gone off, they somehow trail 26-20. It takes a lot of effort just to do that bad. They better have a big run to open the second or else they'll be in a lot of trouble. That was absolutely ridiculous.

Last year's Eastern Conference Finals were far from over when the Celtics fell behind 0-2 in Miami

On May 30th of last year Rajon Rondo played the game of his life.  But it wasn't enough, and the Celtics lost Game 2 of the Conference Finals to the Heat, 115-111 in OT.  That put the C's in an 0-2 hole heading back to Boston.  I'll be the first to admit, I had given up.  After watching one of the greatest individual performances I'd ever seen come up just short...

Knicks Secure Game One Over the Celtics 85-78, Melo Registers for 36 Points

Photo by Jesse D. Garrabrant/NBAE via Getty Images A wild matinee took place in Madison Square Garden as the New York Knicks defeated the Boston Celtics 85-78 in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals. The first clash between the two Atlantic division squads did not disappoint, especially from a New York state of mind. In the first half of play both teams, respectively,...
