Celtics Green ...a boston celtics blog.:
We finally saw the Jeff Green from the preseason that had been compared to James Worthy. Let's hope that he's here to stay and doesn't regress again. He was aggressive and that's what the Celtics need from him.
Along the same lines, we finally saw some aggressiveness from the whole team. They played defense and got stops. They were aggressive going to the basket. They played Celtics basketball. And they actually fought for rebounds. They got a little complacent in the 4th quarter and let the Thunder make it a close game, but they fought back behind KG's free throws and Jason Terry's hot hand to get the win. As with Green, I hope these Celtics are here to stay and don't regress to the no defense Celtics that we saw against the Spurs and Pistons.
Rondo's streak of double digit assist games continues and it now at 36 games. He can tie Utah's John Stockton for the second-longest streak in league history on Sunday in Orlando. Then there will just be Magic Johnson ahead of him with 46 games. Opinion over Rondo's streak is mixed between those who feel it's a distraction and those who think it's a great accomplishment. I don't believe it's a distraction. Rondo seems to rack up the assists almost effortlessly. He gets them in the flow of the game and has shown that if his shot is there he'll take it. And, what's great, this year he's making them.
Doc has changed Kevin Garnett from the Big Ticket to the Big Cellphone. Here's Doc's quote about managing KG's minutes.
“Garnett is like a cellphone that you buy at the 7-Eleven. You’ve got 32 minutes, and if you went 33, then the phone would have been dead. We had to manage his minutes.”
Paul Pierce had a great game and his steady play led the Celtics. While watching the game, my husband said "Paul Pierce tricked them with his old man move. He's like the basketball version of the changeup pitch." I thought that was a great analogy. Pierce never does things really fast but yet teams are often at a loss to stop him. Here's what Perk had to say about Pierce's game.
“He’s got a lot of tricks. That’s the reason he’s been scoring the ball like he has for years. Got a lot of tricks man. He did a great job tonight of just playing smart. He’s moving well and it looks like he’s in great shape, he’s doing his job”
More from Perk. He hasn't forgotten his Celtics roots and keeps up with the Celtics, still watching all their games two years after the trade.
“I watch them every night. Even nights we play at the same time, I still go back and watch their games, see how they’re doing. They do the same on my end. We give each other professional criticism.’’
And on Rondo, who is still his best friend. Perk and his family had Thanksgiving Dinner with Rondo's family.
"“If you don’t understand who (Rondo) is, you could pretty much want to strangle him. But he’s a good dude. You’ve got to understand who he is as a person. It’s just the way he carries himself. Other guys told him, ‘You’re the only person I’ve seen who watches your own self walk.’ He’s an interesting dude.’’
And a couple of great photos from Perk's beautiful wife, Vanity. First, Paul Pierce and daughters with Perk and son Kenxton.
And Rondo with his Godson, Kenxton.
This was a very good win for the Celtics over a quality team at home. There's no denying that the Thunder are one of the top contenders in the West. The Celtics needed to establish themselves at home. They needed to get their defense back on track. And they needed a win over a contender. In this game they got all three. Now on to Orlando and hopefully a 2 game win streak.

BEST OF MAXIM
So far this is dunk is about all we've seen from Green.
The Celtics have lost two in a row. They're in danger of falling below .500. This evening will be the first time Jeff Green has ever played against his former team. If all of those things don't set him up perfectly to have his best game of the year, than I don't know what does.
So far his season highs...
After having his best night of the season and helping the Celtics beat the Thunder 108-100, Jeff Green said he was not motivated by the fact that he used to play for the Thunder. Jason Terry was another Celtic who had a big night, scoring 16 points wich included a huge three-pointer with 36 seconds [...]
Jason Terry and Jeff Green lead the Celtics to their first statement win of the season tonight after beating the Oklahoma City Thunder 108-100.The JET hit a huge three at the end of the fourth quarter, Paul Pierce had a strong second half and Jeff Green had a strong 17-point performance off the bench to [...]
So I may have reached a bit with my headline, but I needed that win.
Fueled by Paul Pierce and Jeff Green, the Celtics beat the Oklahoma City Thunder, 108-100. While Pierce and Green deserve credit for strong individual performances, this truly was a team effort. The Celtics had 8 offensive rebounds. The bench cranked out 35 points. The defense came alive (in the 2nd and 3rd quarters...
Trading places: Green played well against his former team
Saying "best win of the season" is cliche. But so far, this was absolutely the best win of the season. The Celtics beat the Thunder 108-100, in a game that was hardly in doubt in the final quarter. The Celtics were led by Paul Pierce who was absolutely on fire, putting up 27 points on 8-16 shooting, and of course...
Here's another edition of the Best of Tommy. When Tommy and Mike were doing the Mailbag, Tommy got a question asking who would win a championship first - Perk or Ray. His answer was classic Tommy.
Who wins a championship first: Perk or Ray? "Uggghh. Ohhhh....I'm not gonna guess. I'm just gonna say 'Mail again after the All-Star Game.'"

It's kind of funny to get Thunder fans perspective on this Jeff Green trade. It seems like they feel the same way about Perk that we feel about Green, especially after Uncle Jeff's big game tonight. Do they want to trade back?!
The Thunder fans also seemed to get much delight out of making fun of the Rondo assist streak and his home court advantage in that regard. They also...
The Celtics hold on in Orlando tonight to beat the Magic 116-110 in OT. Looked like the Celtics would continue their stellar play from Friday night early, but a nightmare 3rd quarter where Boston’s defense vanished and Orlando shot the lights out made this a nail biter.
The Green: Rondo came out of the gate on a mission. He had 4 assists in the first 4 minutes of the game, 9 at...
By Mike ShalinThe Sports Xchange BOSTON -- In most situations, Oklahoma City coach Scott Brooks would be thrilled to see Jeff Green have the kind of game he had Friday night. But Friday night, Green, who now plays for the Celtics, had a big game against the Thunder, his old team. "I love him. It was good to see. I was hoping he'd have it against Orlando Sunday and...
BOSTON — Jeff Green found the concept baffling. His good friend and former teammate, Kevin Durant, dropped 29 points against him, yet it was suggested that he and Paul Pierce had teamed up to make the Oklahoma City Thunder forward’s night miserable.
“He still got 37 points,” Green said, before he was quickly told Durant’s actual scoring total. “Close to 30, whatever....
BOSTON -- Jeff Green was anything but hospitable to his old team Friday night. Green, who was traded from Oklahoma City to Boston late in the 2010-11 season and missed all of last season with a heart problem that required surgery, scored the last seven points of an 11-0 run late in the third quarter that helped the Celtics end a two-game losing streak with a 108-100 win over the...
The Boston Celtics entered Thanksgiving with many things to be thankful for, especially forwards Jeff Green and Chris Wilcox. Both players are coming off heart surgery that ended their seasons prematurely last year.
The Celtics lost two straight going into their game against the defending Western Conference champion Oklahoma City Thunder at the TD Garden on Friday night. In those...
I just got back from an 8-hour drive this Saturday with only one thing on my mind…except for a couple X-rated things. I just wanted to sit on my couch, watch the Celtics play the not so exciting Raptors. Why would I be so enthralled over one lousy regular season game? The answer has two words. RAJON RONDOOOOOOO. Man, I haven’t been so excited over a player on the Celtics since...
