BOSTON — Courtney Lee is the same place before every game. The Celtics shooting guard sits at his locker, surrounded by empty stalls, having gotten in all the practice shots he needed earlier in the day. After each game, he dresses quietly, pausing to answer questions from the few reporters who break away from the scrums around Paul Pierce or Kevin Garnett. Lee, in other words, is eminently accessible for a professional athlete. So it was strange to see a report Thursday that an ESPN writer had learned through “back channels” that Lee was unhappy with the way the team played before Rajon Rondo went down with a season-ending ACL injury. Lee was ticked. In his many interactions with the media, Lee has not expressed any unhappiness, other than with the inconsistent play that has frustrated everyone on the team. He responded in the quickest way he knew how — via Twitter — to assert he had no idea where the news came from. What could have become a minor controversy affecting team chemist...

Courtney Lee denies report he’s unhappy in Boston

Via the Boston Herald: Courtney Lee said that he’s mystified by a recent report by Grantland.com’s Zach Lowe, who said that, according to a source, the Celtics guard was not happy in Boston, and was upset with Rondo’s tendency to dribble the ball while setting up the offense. “Not true at all,” Lee said. “And what else did (Lowe) say? That I hated playing with Rondo because...

Is Doc Rivers the right coach for the Celtics?

Doc Rivers tenure as the Celtics head coach has been tumultuous to say the least. I remember adamantly chanting at the then TD Banknorth Garden that Doc needed to be fired. His rotations were awful, he subbed too late, and it felt like he almost forgot he was coaching during the games. But we all know what happened in the end, winning one title and one dirty play by Andrew Bynum...

5 Things Celtics must do to win tomorrow - Magic 2/1

The Celtics, after their impressive blowout win over the Kings, will host the Magic tomorrow night at the TD Garden. The Magic are not the team we are used to seeing. Now that Howard is in L.A., this team has fallen apart. They are a horrible 14-31, but they're still an NBA team. The C's still have to play hard. Here's tomorrow's 5 things: 5. KEEP GETTING CONTRIBUTIONS...

Jason Terry and Courtney Lee must step up in Rondo’s absense

Hopefully these two can find their rhythm and keep the fist pumps rolling We all know Rondo is gone and isn’t coming back. I for one think the Celtics can still make a run without him. It seems like I’m in the minority here, but I think that we are deeper than we have been at the guard position in quite some time, and can still coast to the playoffs (maybe not as simple as before...

Courtney Lee’s Supposed Unhappiness, Calls for Doc Rivers’ Job Rumors Show the Sloppy Side of Reporting

Lee, in other words...

Your Morning Dump… The Pitbulls wreaked havoc on the Kings backcourt

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. The newly minted front-line guard combination of Avery Bradley and Courtney Lee was unrelenting, pestering Sacramento’s guards and fueling Boston’s offense by pushing the ball the other way. The duo helped...

Doc Rivers laughs off talk Celtics are better w/o Rondo

Via WEEI: The Celtics are now 2-0 since losing Rajon Rondo for the season with an ACL tear in his right knee. A vocal minority have speculated that perhaps this team might be better off without the services of the All-Star point guard, a notion the coach dismissed quickly on Thursday. “That’s silly,” Rivers said. “The bottom line is that you’d rather have him. But we...

Jason Terry, Courtney Lee Responding to Rajon Rondo’s Absence As Celtics’ Backcourt Steps Up

BOSTON — Jason Terry and Leandro Barbosa were working at a feverish pace, driving to the hole and firing shots with abandon, when a timeout brought a momentary reprieve from the chaos. “What are we running?” they asked Doc Rivers on the bench. “I have no idea,” the coach replied. Whatever it was, it was working. That was enough for Rivers. For the third straight game, the...

Expectations Growing On A Celtics Move Involving Bass, Terry or Lee

Even before the Celtics lost both Rajon Rondo and Jared Sullinger for the season, expectations that they would make a move at the deadline were high with the team struggling to mesh. Now, with two starters gone, Brandon Bass, Jason Terry and Courtney Lee will have their names tossed around the trade market. According to Marc Stein / ESPN: There’s a rising expectation among some...

Doc Rivers: Memphis backed out of Ray Allen for O.J. Mayo deal

Doc Rivers reaffirmed why O.J. Mayo didn’t become a Celtic last season. On WEEI Thursday morning, Doc Rivers said Memphis backed out of the deal that that would have swapped Mayo for Ray Allen. Doc on old Ray/Mayo deal: "Memphis pulled plug, not us. … O.J.'s so much younger. That's a trade we really thought we had to look at hard."— Ben Rohrbach (@brohrbach...

Celtics better without Rajon Rondo? Doc: "That's silly."

On WEEI's Dennis & Callahan Show this morning, Boston's head coach Doc Rivers was asked if he thought his team might be better without it's star point guard.  Here's Doc's response: That’s silly. The bottom line is that you’d rather have him. But we do have other guys that can do different things. Having Courtney Lee and Avery [Bradley] gives you size...

Celtics upcoming west coast trip will be telling

Last night, the Celtics did what we have been expecting them to do against bad teams; they were able to maintain a double digit lead going into the fourth quarter.  It was a thing of beauty(mostly); The Jet looked like a naval aircraft taking off the flight deck and Jeff Green somehow seemed like he finally found his moxie and Leandro Barbosa finally got the minutes he deserved...

Celtics Grind Out Another Win

Celtics 106, Clippers 104 At one point during the Celtics magnificent performance against the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday Afternoon, Tommy Heinsohn could not contain himself and exclaimed, “I’ve been waiting for this type of basketball for years! It’s so easy to win when you play this way!” He was referring to a quick outlet pass off a steal that led to an easy layup for...

Celtics Must Keep Things Simple to Continue Success Without Rajon Rondo

BOSTON — They are not dead yet. It was odd to hear Celtics coach Doc Rivers, mere minutes after his team had outlasted the defending champion Miami Heat in two overtimes on Sunday, to invite fans and reporters to write his team’s obituary. If the Celtics were not already six feet under this season, the loss of Rajon Rondo to a season-ending knee injury was supposedly the nail...
