The outlook for the Boston Celtics this season is bleak at best. The proud franchise has lost many of its star players and is left with a roster full of young and unproven talent. Naturally, this has many Celtics fans looking to the future, and clamoring for the team to "tank" this year in hopes of perhaps landing Kansas freshman Andrew Wiggins. Just don't expect Danny Ainge to buy into that logic, though. From Sports Illustrated: As I walk around town, more than anything else there are those that say, ‘Hey, don’t win too many games,”‘ said Ainge, the Celtics’ president of basketball operations. “There are so many fans that want us to play for the draft.” Ainge’s measured response is that they should be more careful what they wish for. Without ever mentioning the name of the consensus No. 1 pick Andrew Wiggins, Ainge made it clear that he does not believe the Kansas freshman carries the value of Kevin Durant, with whom he is often compared. “If Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was out there to change your franchise forever, or Tim Duncan was going to change your franchise for 15 years? That might be a different story,” said Ainge. “I don’t see that player out there.” So, aside from basically insulting Wiggins and his potential in the NBA, Ainge still believes the Celtics have a shot at competing for a postseason spot. Unfortunately, even the best case scenario probably has Boston falling well shy of qualifying for the playoffs. Now, I realize nobody inside an organization ever wants to accept losing, but the fact of the matter here is that the Celtics are likely to be bad this season. And if they wind up with the first pick, and select Wiggins, Ainge has a little apologizing to do to help smooth things over. Via Pro Basketball Talk
