Via ESPN Boston:“I can guarantee that the people in Minnesota, they miss what he does in the locker room,” Rivers said. “They miss what he does on the floor in practice everyday, his work ethic. He has this ability to give himself to a team. It’s rare that you see a superstar do that, and he does that. I mean, he gives himself completely to his team, and just tells them to use him whatever way, whatever you want. It’s nice to have. That’s what I think he brings to a franchise, is a star who is over himself and that’s really good.” Later Rivers added, “I don’t know if everyone understands, even on our team, or publicly, who Kevin Garnett really is. Just as far as what he’s done, his body of work. There’s the Hall of Fame, and then there’s the table at the Hall of Fame. And Kevin Garnett is at the table. Very few people get to sit at the table.”With KG meeting his old team yesterday, I wrote a bit for MassLive mostly about what he’s meant to the Celtics. Go read it if you want.

Did Doc calling the Celtics soft help light a fire underneath them?

It's been eight days, and three games, since Doc Rivers called his team soft following their rather embarrassing loss at home against the Nets. Since then the team is 2-1, beating the Blazers by 18, losing in Milwaukee by 3 (both of these games without Rajon Rondo) and then beating the Timberwolves by 10 last night. More than just the results though, the team has played differently...

Kevin Garnett Must Break His Instinct to Be Unselfish on Offense as Celtics Become More Careful With His Playing Time

BOSTON — Kevin Garnett said he was not doing anything differently, that his attention was still on his defense first and foremost while he took his offense as it came within the flow of the game. Anybody who has watched Garnett play over the years, though, can see how unnatural it looked and how uncomfortable he must have felt taking so many shots, so early in the game, because...

Doc Rivers Has No Objections to New Orleans Name Change, But Thinks It Should Be ‘Jazz’

BOSTON — After this season, Austin Rivers will no longer be a member of the New Orleans Hornets. No, the rookie guard out of Duke is not on the trading block, but the son of Celtics coach Doc Rivers will be joining his teammates on a newly named team with a new color scheme as early as next season. Ladies and gentlemen of the Big Easy, meet your New Orleans Pelicans. As goofy as...

The Celtics improved to 10-0 since they acquired Garnett from the Timberwolves during the summer of 2007. They also won for the 11th straight time...

Recap: KG, Celtics control Wolves

The Celtics started aggressively, but faded down the stretch of the second quarter to lull us all into believing we were in for another frustrating dog fight. But they took control of the game in the second half to push their lead up as high as 17 before settling for a 104-94 win.  The starters, led by Kevin Garnett, demolished the Timberwolves… scoring 82 of the Celtics 104 points...

Courtney Lee says best is yet to come for this year’s squad

Looks like today is going to be Courtney Lee day here at Red’s Army. In this morning’s Dump, I talked about Lee’s recent sit-down with Doc Rivers and whether or not fans think Courtney is part of Boston’s long-term plan. Last night, Chris Forsberg wrote about Lee’s overall optimism for this year’s squad: “We’re not worried about the record. We know that it’s a...

Rondo returns to lead Celtics to 104-94 win over Timberwolves

By Mike Shalin, The Sports Xchange BOSTON – His team was down in the early minutes of the second half Wednesday night, but Celtics coach Doc Rivers wasn't overly concerned. "I liked the pace. I liked the tempo," Rivers said, after the Celtics, getting Rajon Rondo back after his two-game league suspension, got hot in the third quarter and wound up cruising to a...

Al Jefferson Could Lead Celtics’ Wish List for Big Man to Fill Hole Down Low (Photos)

The Celtics entered this season intending to go small, and so far their plan has yielded mixed results. They remain just a little too old and slow to keep up with the fast-paced teams and a little too small to bang with the big bodies. Well before Darko Milicic left the team to be with his sick mother and Jason Collins took on an increased role, the Celtics’ need for another big...
