Boston Celtics head coach Doc Rivers is one of the best coaches in the NBA. Despite the loss of star point guard Rajon Rondo to a torn ACL earlier this season, Rivers has kept the Celtics ship afloat and has the team positioned for a playoff berth. But when it comes to the playoffs, match-ups are key. Despite traditionally having success against the Miami Heat, or more success than any other team, Rivers had a very interesting quote when asked about matching up with LeBron & co. in the playoffs. So, Rivers is actually admitting he wants avoid the Heat? “Of course we would,” Rivers admitted when asked that very question. “But if we play them, we’ll be ready. But of course we would. Listen, I’m not that dumb. I’m not the brightest guy but come on. Really, you would love to avoid anyone [like Miami]. Listen, no matter who we play, we’re going to play a tough team. It’s going to be New York, Indiana or Miami. There’s no cakewalk for us. It’s going to be hard.” I can always appreciate honesty, so props to Rivers for being upfront about his mindset when it comes to the Heat. If they do happen to end up matched with the Heat, I feel safe saying the Celtics wouldn’t go down without a fight. Don’t forget, last year they took the Heat to the brink with a 7-game Eastern Conference Finals.

Randolph’s emergence may help, not hurt, Chris Wilcox

With just a handful of games left, there’s a hyper-focus on who might get minutes when the playoffs begin.  Last night, Doc went with the big lineup he promised when he made Jeff Green a starter:  Avery Bradley, Paul Pierce, Green, Brandon Bass, and Kevin Garnett.  That moved Chris Wilcox to the bench, and created an interesting little “Shavlik Randolph vs. Wilcox” scenario...

Doc Rivers Unsure Brittney Griner Could Make NBA Team If Drafted, But Thinks It Would Be ‘Really Cool’

BOSTON — Doc Rivers admits he does not watch a whole lot of women’s basketball. Between coaching his own team and closely following high school, AAU and college basketball thanks to his son Austin‘s stellar play over the last few years, Rivers spends plenty of time watching the men’s version of the game. The Celtics coach did find it intriguing, though, when a reporter mentioned...

Comments from the Other Side - Cavs 4/5

It's amazing how teams that are tanking and want to lose every game still get up for the Celtics.  Maybe it's Byron Scott's Laker hate of the Celtics or years of getting beaten  by them but they all hate the Celtics.  And everyone hates on Tommy.  But I love him, and don't want any announcer but him.  I'm not so upset about this loss.  We didn't have ...

Here Comes Super Bass

The C's 107-96 win last night over the Wizards may have been credited in part to the return of KG and Truth but don't discount the effort submitted by Brandon Bass.  The usually quiet Bass turned in a very audible 20 points (on a remarkable 9-of-12 shooting clip), 6 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal and 1 block in helping Boston take its 40th victory of the season.  Just in time...

Jordan Crawford says he does not remember playing for the Wizards

In a show of bitterness, the Boston Celtics Jordan Crawford gave the Boston Globe a really hard time when Baxter Holmes attempted to interview him about facing his previous team the Washington Wizards on Sunday. When the subject was brought up to Crawford after practice on Saturday he responded by saying ‘who?’ Please click here to read this story. The post Jordan Crawford...

Celtics Would Like to Avoid Heat in First Round of Playoffs, But Will Welcome Challenge If It Comes

BOSTON — Doc Rivers has been asked several times over the past few weeks about how closely he is following his team’s position in the standings. When the query was posed again Friday after the Celtics’ loss to the Cavaliers, Rivers jokingly rolled his eyes. “How many times do I have to answer this?” he asked, putting up his hands and looking around the interview room at...

Garnett’s return lifts Boston Celtics over Washington Wizards 107-96

Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce returned tonight, the Celtics moved Jeff Green into the starting lineup for good (and Courtney Lee to the bench, sorry Courtney), and the Celtics put together a quality win over John Wall and the Washington Wizards. A 19-3 run put the Celtics up big in the third quarter and the C’s cruised to an easy victory aside from a collective brain-fart by the...

Celtics beat Wizards 107 to 96 in KG Return

The Boston Celtics defeated the Washington Wizards 107 to 96 tonight at the TD Garden. Pierce and Garnett both returned to the lineup, which gave the entire team a nice boost. This win was a full team win, as 5 players scored in double figures and 3 more almost did. Flat-out the Wizards were no match for the Celtics talent. KG was sharp in his return to the court, but the leader...

Wizards-Celtics Preview

The Boston Celtics could be getting back their two top scorers at the same time. There's a chance Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett will both return Sunday night at home when the Celtics try to defeat the visiting Washington Wizards for the seventh straight time. Pierce sat out Friday's 97-91 loss to lowly Cleveland with a sore left ankle, but returned to practice Saturday...

Tristan Thompson finished with a career high 29 points and 17 boards. Everyone take a deep breath. The losing streak is over. We can all relax. Well, at least a little bit. Cavaliers bounced back from (possibly) their worst loss of the season, beating the Boston Celtics 97-91 and snapping their season-long 10-game losing streak. Tristan Thompson led everyone with 29 points and 17...
