Rondo
I often wonder what opposing teams, their beat reporters and bloggers are saying about the Celtics after playing the Celtics. Here's a dose of 'enemy chatter' from Philadelphia. The Sixers played a lot better in this one, and we'll talk about some of the good Sixer performances, but really, Philly was able to win this game because of three things, all Boston-related: Brandon Bass couldn't make a shot, Ray Allen is off his game, and Rajon Rondo is a weird dude. The first two are easily explained—Bass had probably the best game he's ever going to have in the playoffs in Game Five, scoring 18 points in the third quarter, and was probably due for a clunker like this. Meanwhile, Allen has been dealing with injury the entire playoffs, and while his 4-11 line isn't awful, he missed a couple key good looks (including a three with a minute to go) that you feel like Ray Allen at 100% hits at least 90% of the time.Rondo, though...man. You get why rooting for this ...

Rajon Rondo Hits Wall at Worst Time for Celtics, Who Need of Guard to Step Up

PHILADELPHIA -- Like a dad handing over the car keys to his son on prom night, Celtics coach Doc Rivers placed his team's fate in Rajon Rondo's hands on Wednesday. It was time to trust the point guard. Instead of triumphantly justifying Rivers' decision, however, Rondo ground the gears, spilled soda on the upholstery and returned the family sedan with a big scratch on...

KG, Rondo named 2nd All Defensive team

Via ESPN Boston's Chris Forsberg: Celtics guard Rajon Rondo and center Kevin Garnett each landed a spot on the NBA All-Defensive second team. The first team consistent of Miam's LeBron James, Oklahoma City's Serge Ibaka, Orlando's Dwight Howard, Los Angeles Clippers' Chris Paul, and Memphis' Tony Allen. Garnett and Rondo are joined on the second team...

Rajon Rondo, Ray Allen Must Carry Celtics in Absence of Avery Bradley (Video)

Rajon Rondo didn't show off his best stuff in Game 6 on Wednesday night. The All-Star point guard looked a bit lost at times and was a big reason why the Celtics offense never truly found their groove. With backcourt mate Avery Bradley now done for the postseason, after having season-ending shoulder surgery on Friday, Rondo and teammate Ray Allen will be relied upon more than...

Rondo, Garnett and Pierce would love to dominate, but don’t forget potential unsung heroes

The Boston Celtics have lost their last two Game 7s, an important fact to consider as their decisive meeting with the Philadelphia 76ers approaches later tonight. They are not invincible in clutch situations, bowing meekly at home to the Orlando Magic in 2009 (albeit without Kevin Garnett) and falling in devastating fashion on the road to the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2010 Finals...

Vote: Which Player's Performance Is Most Important for Celtics to Win Game 7?

The Celtics were pretty much awful across the board on Wednesday night in Game 6 against Philadelphia, and because of it, they return home for a do-or-die Game 7 on Saturday night. The C's will need better performances out of practically everybody, as Paul Pierce was pretty much the only person in green you could point to and say had a decent game. Even so, "decent"...

Ray Allen, Greg Stiemsma re-aggravated injuries in Game 5

Recap: Game 6 was an epic fail

I've been watching the Celtics for some 30 years and tonight may have been one of the worst performances I've witnessed. The Sixers played mediocre basketball and beat the Celtics, 82-75. The Celtics were... abominable, alarming, appalling, atrocious, deplorable, depressing, dire, disgusting, distressing, dreadful, fearful, frightful, ghastly, grody, gross, gruesome...

Who The Hell Is The Blonde At The Ray Allen Presser?

Loyal BC reader Steve in Hoboken was up watching SportsCenter last night while the rest of New Jersey was fist pumping in Seaside. “Who’s the blonde smoke,” he asked. Let’s see, full lips, perfect nose, insane jaw structure, great flow to the hair. She’s not holding that Channel 5 mic so you can rule her out at that station. One of you bros knows that blonde. Make things...

Ray Allen felt a better rhythm in Game 6

Think back to the Oklahoma City Thunder defeat right before the All-Star break. A team-building game, Doc Rivers called it. There’s no such thing as a team-building 15-point loss, the crowd shouted back at him. Not for these Boston Celtics.Flash forward to Game 6. A rhythm-builder, Ray Allen called it. There’s no such thing as a rhythm-building 4-for-11 from the field, including...

Allen Iverson attending Game 6, provides an interesting juxtaposition to the old, dedicated Celtics

Allen Iverson plans to be in attendance tonight at Game 6 in Philadelphia, according to multiple sources. #celtics #sixersabout 6 hours ago via webReplyRetweetFavorite@TTwerskyTzvi TwerskyKevin Garnett called Philadelphia 76ers fans “fair weather,” a Philadelphia columnist responded by calling Boston fans racist, and tonight we have Game 6, which is supposed to be attended...

With Avery Bradley’s season likely over, reportedly, Celtics quite vulnerable

This had been shaping up to be the year the Boston Celtics were finally unbothered by injury. But Avery Bradley’s shoulder popped out of its socket once too many times, he might undergo surgery any day now, and the Celtics suddenly rest one loss away from a possible end to the Big Three era, or one win away from Ray Allen and his damning bone spurs defending Dwyane Wade for 30...

Celtics Need All the Help They Can Get Right Now As Injuries Continue to Mount

The Celtics are one game from advancing to the Eastern Conference finals, but it's becoming abundantly clear that it won't be easy to do that. The C's are in the midst of a battle with the Philadelphia 76ers, and nagging injuries aren't making things any easier for the Green. Players like Paul Pierce, Ray Allen and Avery Bradley are all battling injuries that have...

Passionate. Intense. Proud.

As long as I can remember, the Philadelphia 76ers have always been the city's "fourth team".  Fans in Philadelphia have always put the Eagles, Phillies, and Flyers ahead of the Sixers.  The Sixers have a very rich past all the way up until the Allen iverson days, then the organization fell into a rebuilding mode.  That rebuilding stage lasted so long, the attendance...

Cold, hard facts: The reality of where the Celtics stand right now

So we're all still a little upset over last night.  I get that.  It was probably the worst playoff game we've ever watched.  The score at halftime was worse than some Div. 3 games.  And today, we're all saying a lot of things that we may or may not regret.  With that in mind, here are a few of the things being said, and the absolute truth of the matter.  There...

Comments from the other side - Sixers Game 6 5/23

Sixers fans really are bad.  They trash their own team through most of the game and then when they win they get all upset when ESPN doesn't bow down and worship them.   They themselves were talking about how bad they were so what do they expect the commentators to do?  Little bit of everything here:  Ref complaints (although they really shouldn't have any), wheelchair...
