So ESPN has been doing this "#NBARank" thing where they are ranking the top 500 players in the NBA, starting with 500 and counting down.
Their method is having each of their 215 "experts" rank each player from 1-10 based on the "quality and quantity of their expected production". They then gave each player a score based on their average ranking and put them in order. Hardly rocket science. But an (somewhat) interesting way to see how the worldwide leader views different players. And in our case, to see how they view the Celtics.
So far ESPN has ranked everyone from 500 down to 91, with the top 90 slowly being released over the next three weeks before the season tips off. However, there are only two Celtics who have not been named yet — Rajon Rondo and Jeff Green — so I thought it would be interesting to take a look at where the other 12 Celtics have fallen in the rankings. Here they are (number in parenthesis is their score).
#102 Avery Bradley (5...

If you’ve been reading Celtkicks, you’re already aware that Rajon Rondo has been spotted wearing Chinese sneaker company Anta’s shoes. Well now comes news via the Globe’s Gary Washburn that #9 will make it official tomorrow:
It looks like Rajon Rondo will officially announce he’s signing with Anta shoe company Tues night. Rondo was previously with Nike #celtics
Rajon Rondo has recently been spotted wearing a black & green “away” colorway of a new shoe from Anta. Even though the Chinese sneaker company has yet to confirm they’ve signed Rajon, it’s becoming clear he’ll be wearing the company’s kicks this season.
Today at Celtics practice, he was seen in a white & green “home” version of the same shoe. My sneaker spies...
Last year, Kevin Garnett advised Jeff Green that he needed to be more of an a$$hole when he is on the court.
In a post-game interview from tonight's loss to the Toronto Raptors, Jeff Green told the media that the "a$$hole mentality is coming." (Warning, an expletive is used in the video above so make sure no children are present when watching).
From WEEI's Ben...
Jeff Green did not have a very good game last night, scoring only 6 points on 2-7 shooting in 23 minutes. He also commented after the game that "the asshole mentality was coming" but wasn't there yet.
However, Green did have one highlight, this block of D.J. Augustin where he leaped over the Raptors point guard and for a brief moment basically rested his balls on Augustin...
As far as predictions go, this is a lot less bold than saying Michael Jordan will come back for one game. Still, this one is notable for including absolutely no hedging. Most of the talk involving Rajon Rondo and the Celtics this season centers around the team’s supposed need to trade the 27-year-old point guard if it is truly dedicated to rebuilding. Once Rondo returns from his...
Bill Simmons thinks the new ownership of the Sacramento Kings will want to make a splash and that splash will be a trade for Rajon Rondo.
Here’s the scenario:
The Celtics move out Rondo, Gerald Wallace and MarShon Brooks for Ben McLemore, Greivis Vasquez (expiring), Patrick Patterson (expiring), John Salmons (expiring) and Jimmer Fredette. Boston would also have the option to swap...
With the pre-season officially upon us, we here at CelticsLife thought it would be fun to dish out some pre-season award predictions for the Celtics. We came up with eight awards (four positive, four not-so-positive), and will be giving out writer predictions on each of them over the next week or so.
These awards will be named after Celtics greats (and not-so-greats), and hopefully...

Although new Boston Celtic Head Coach Brad Stevens has been highly praiseful of the entire Celtic team this pre-season he did have one somewhat ambivalent remark with regards to Jeff Green yesterday: “Jeff has had his ups and downs, but he’s been solid.”
Green playfully laughed off the quote for reporters demonstrating his evolving comfort in his new...
Tonight the Celtics play their first game with all the pieces in place, expect Rajon Rondo of course.
Fans will get to see how out of shape Jared Sullinger is after back surgery; how Avery Bradley can adjust to play the point after a pretty bad go of it last season; how Kelly Olynyk looks against real NBA talent; how Jeff Green approaches being the go-to guy for the first time in...
Being a new coach, with new players, in a new league can't be easy. Trying to find out what works and what doesn't would probably be a lot like throwing things at a wall and seeing what sticks. Brad Stevens said Jeff Green will see some playing time at the shooting guard position, and that has me wondering what else could be in store for the lineups this upcoming season....
Bill Simmons and Jalen Rose have been doing a series of Grantland video podcast previews for each NBA team, ranking them in reverse order from #30 up to #1. Today they featured #24, the Celtics. When the topic of conversation turned to Rondo's future with the team, here's what they had to say:
Simmons: "Clairvoyant Bill thinks Rajon Rondo has 20 games or less left...
I think when it comes to the Celtics starting five, only Rondo and Green are locks. With Rondo sidelined for now, that opens up the starting unit for now.
Scribes in attendance were treated to one fancy Jordan Crawford scoop shot; a nice high-low assist from Kelly Olynyk to Jared Sullinger; Vitor Faverani launching a 3-pointer from the left wing (he missed); and...
Recently, our buddies from Down Under had a vision of the new Avengers sequel featuring the new era C's: Rondo as Captain America, Jeff Green as Iron Man, Kelly Olynyk as Thor, AB as Hawkeye and Brandon Bass as Hulk. What do you think of the casting?
Great work, mates!

The 2013-14 Boston Celtics have been under a magnifying class since the All-Star break of 2012. It was that time of year again- the All-Star Break aka when people start shouting their opinions as loud as possible. Celtics fans topic-hopped from wondering why more Celtics weren’t in All-Star discussions, to what free agents Boston should target in the off-season, to asking what...
With the leaders of this team being traded to Brooklyn this off season, Danny Ainge knew that he would need someone to step up and be a veteran leader. From what Danny has said, he doesn't plan to trade Rondo and he will be the new face of the franchise, replacing Paul Pierce. But, Rondo has always had a veteran to lean on and the inclusion of Keith Bogans in the trade insures...
