The Warriors dropped an ugly one to the Nets last night 94-90. This wasn’t a bad loss for the Warriors because it was on the road or even because the Nets were missing Deron Williams. It was an ugly loss because once again Andris Biedrins was brought in late in the game for defense and that is what let New Jersey seal the deal. Biedrins was brought in with about a minute to go and the Warriors up one. Immediately Lopez got the ball and scored a and one. That was the basket that cost the Warriors the game.
I am not sure why Keith Smart continues to substitute Biedrins for Udoh late in games. It is clear that Udoh is the much better defender and Biedrins has been awful for most of the season. So why do it? Why not just leave the player that gives you the much better chance to win on the floor? Does Coach Smart not see what the rest of us see? I am not saying if Udoh is in the game at he end the Warriors win for sure. What I am saying is that if Udoh was in the game at the end the Warriors would have had a much better shot at winning. Udoh always has his hands up and rarely commits stupid fouls, like the one on Lopez. So please Keith Smart be a little smarter and give more minutes to the rookie.
I just would like to point out that I don’t totally blame this loss on Keith Smart. Both Monta Ellis and Dorell Wright had very poor games going a combined 11 for 32 from the field. Even Stephen Curry looked a little off in this one only picking up 3 assists. If those guys had stepped it up a bit this game wouldn’t have come down to last minute shots.
Don’t get your hopes up that the boys will bounce back from this one. Next up are the Orlando Magic, who come in to town Friday. Now if Smart is smart (that sounds confusing) he will have Udoh on Howard and get a better idea of how good this rookie is. We all know what will happen if Smart puts Lee or Biedrins on Howard, so be smart Smart (this last name is killing me) and let’s see what the rookie can do.
