Gary Tanguay questions Bob Ryan, aka Grampa Celtic, about this season's Celtic team. He has been most impressed with Jared Sullinger. He refers to Sully's "alleged back issues" and asks how far back we have to go to find a guy we can just throw the ball to in the post and say go to work. He also feels that we should keep Jason Terry on the bench. If you have a guy who embraces the role of Sixth Man and loves coming off the bench, you should keep him there. Again, he goes back to Eddie House, who also embraced the role. He added that Jet is much better than Eddie House and that we haven't had a guy who could provide energy and instant offense off the bench for awhile. He calls Pierce cagey and wily and feels that he won't have any drop off this season. He expects Doc to continue to religiously guard KG's minutes and as long as he stays healthy, he will continue to play at a high level. As far as Rondo being the leader, he feels that KG, Pierce and Rondo all have a specific leadership niche on the team. KG is the emotional leader and the center of the defense. Pierce is the scoring leader and the Captain. Rondo has the ball and is the leader of the offense and of the team on the court. Good stuff. Grampa Celtic still has it! [Discuss on CG Forums!]

Celtics Targeting a Vet for Final Spot

When the Celtics waived Dionte Christmas and Jamar Smith yesterday, speculation began on what the next step would be. Christmas had become a fan favorite and had impressed coach Tyronn Lue in summer league. He also had become close to Jason Terry, who took the rookie guard under his wing. There were several articles touting Christmas as having the inside track to gain one of the...

Rajon Rondo the quiet leader of the Celtics?

Rajon Rondo has long been considered a supremely talented player who has an attitude problem. He was supposed to be the leader of the Celtics for the past few years, but there were reports saying Boston was considering trading him because he had become so difficult. He’s had several run-ins with referees, blowups at the media, and he notably struggled to get along Ray Allen last...

Shaq dresses up, sings 'When Doves Cry'

The Cutting Floor: Jeff Green, Courtney Lee, and Moving Without the Ball

Stop me if you've heard this one: Rajon Rondo has the ball at the 3 point line. Kevin Garnett sets a pick. Meanwhile, the other big sets a screen under the basket, and the Wing runs through and gets to the corner. Rondo drives then dishes to the corner, open 3. With guys like Eddie House, James Posey, and oh, just the best 3-point shooter ever, this play has been a staple of...

Boston Celtics / Zombie Slayers

Two things I love, and have been anticipating for months now, have finally started this past week:  Boston Celtics basketball and AMC’s phenomenal TV show Walking Dead.  Now I’m not sure if the show’s Executive Producer Glen Mazzara and NBA Commissioner David Stern collaborated to bring me this confluence of visual ecstasy, but whoever is [...]

Jason Terry and Dionte Christmas lose to 5 women in a pick-up game

The NOC has been doing behind-the-scenes videos with new Celtic Jason Terry. In the most recent edition just released, JET and Dionte Christmas play a game of pick-up basketball against 5 female basketball players. Hopefully this wasn't the reason Christmas got waived from the team!

Rajon Rondo’s Ben Affleck Problem

Rajon Rondo and Ben Affleck have the same problem. It’s called the “yeah, but…” syndrome. This disease forces someone  to bring up a person’s shortcomings whenever they are complimented. Here’s an example. Imagine you’re talking with friend and Affleck comes up. You say, “ Hey I just saw Argo. It’s fantastic. Ben Affleck has totally established himself as one of...

Celtics Struggle Losing 75 to 107

In their second NBA preseason game the Celtics matched up against the 76ers for the first time since last years 2012 NBA Playoffs. The offseason brought all new players to both teams shifting Doc's gameplan and match-ups. One of the most notable differences was the absence of Andre Iguodala who was shipped off to Denver in a multi-player deal that brought former Lakers center...

Comments from the other side - Sixers 10/15

Well, that was unpleasant to watch. Hopefully the Celtics got that all out of their system and hopefully Doc can start defining roles a bit more so that they can get into a groove before the start of the season. Sixers fans aren't all that bad a bunch. They don't seem to have the vitriol that say Knicks fans or Heat fans or Lakers fans have. My favorite comment was...

Celtics Waive Jamar Smith, Dionte Christmas

The Boston Celtics have waived guards Jamar Smith and Dionte Christmas.

Celtics Fall to Nets 97-96

The new look Nets came to town to face-up against the Boston Celtic’s at home in the TD Garden. Brooklyn entered the Garden as one of the most improved teams in the Atlantic Division and hope to compete for a division title. The Nets were able to hold onto their franchise player, Deron Williams by bringing in six time NBA All-Star Joe Johnson. The Celtics and their fans have gotten...

Leandro Barbosa not playing in Celtics-Nets game tonight

For those wondering if Leandro Barbosa will be playing in tonight's Boston Celtics vs. Brooklyn Nets game, the answer is no (according to CSNNE's Sherrod Blakely, who was asked about it on Twitter earlier today). His deal has not been finalized yet, so until everything is in order, we won't be seeing him on the sidelines or the court. @kimoxxx No. Barbosa deal with...

Preseason: Sixers top the Celtics 107-75

The Philadelphia 76ers defeated the Boston Celtics 107-75 during exhibition play Monday night at the Wells Fargo Center. The Celtics slogged their way to their third preseason loss in four outings. Paul Pierce scored a team-high 16 points on 5-of-10 shooting, but also had four turnovers. For the Sixers, Spencer Hawes put up 17 points and eight rebounds in 17:36 off the pine, while...

The New Green?

1st time all star? Comeback player of the year? Top 25 player in the NBA? How about all three. Jeff Green is back and his resurgence is as important to the Celtic's future as is Rondo's steady climb to become and maintain the title of the league's best playmaker. What is even more important is their connection and how they are able to make eachother better. The duo of...

Celtics Live Blog: Rajon Rondo, C's Make First Visit to Brooklyn to Take on Nets

9 a.m. ET: Paul Pierce could not have looked much sharper than he did Tuesday, when the Celtics forward scored 29 points in a one-point loss to the Nets. Those same Nets host Pierce and the Celtics on Thursday at the newly minted Barclays Center. This is the sixth of eight preseason games for the Celtics, who are still a long way from knowing exactly what starting lineup and rotation...
