Celtics Green ...a boston celtics blog.:
After waiting what seemed like an eternity we finally have real Celtics news to talk about and real video to watch of the team we have anticipated all summer. KG was quotable as always
"Well we have continuity," said Garnett. "Obviously, you've got to keep it continuous and stay consistent with it. But, for the most part, we're hanging out, we're being social. Turkey will probably amplify that, because we don't know anybody over there. Other than that, it's a lot of new guys and Doc's changing up the system a little bit, so it's a lot of new stuff, so I can't get a read on it. Give me a couple of days and I can give you a fair assessment. But right now, we're all trying to get this new system, we're all trying to figure each other out.
"I will say this, though. And this is totally off the record -- well, not off or on the record, but -- yesterday we had a [team] dinner that we were driving to and we've never followed each other, none of that. Obviously, the new guys learning the city and stuff. And the way we were driving in formation, this guy getting over, letting him in, blinkers -- it was all cohesive. So, I'm going to chalk that up, that's like solid chemistry for me being able to follow you or driving or anything like that. That was some good driving continuity, so I'm going to chalk that up as some team chemistry in there somewhere, you know? It's like gumbo. I'm throwing everything in there. I got driving, I got social, I got Turkey and Milan, so, yeah, we'll see how this tastes at the end of the day."
The inside of KG's mind is a scary place to be. Gumbo, huh? Speaking of KG being quotable, Ray Allen responded to his quote at Media Day about not having Ray's number any more.
"That's a shame," Allen said. "I'm a good person to talk to on the phone. ... I've been in weird trade situations the last few years. You always felt you had one foot in and one foot out so I can't worry about it."
And a snarky Dwyane Wade had to add this little tidbit:
"(Garnett) doesn't need to be talking to our team anyway, so it's all good."
And while KG was cooking again, Pierce prefers to use dating analogies.
"Well, you can't know everybody in one week, so it's going to take time," said Pierce. "I mean, you get familiar with one another, then there's that stage where you understand everything that person does. So, it takes time, and that's what builds chemistry. It's like in a relationship. You don't know the girl after one week. You've got to get to know them, just like teammates when you develop that chemistry. That's going to be the good thing about going overseas. We're going to spend a lot of time with each other, we're going to hug, we're going to go on some dates, and get to know one another."
Courtney Lee joined the returning quartet of Rajon Rondo, Paul Pierce, Brandon Bass and Kevin Garnett on the first team. I'm sure that Courtney has his work cut out for him trying to keep up with 4 teammates who already know each other very well. Rondo touched on it a bit.
"I kinda confused [Lee] a little bit, I was calling a bunch of different [plays]. But I told him where to go and he picked it up pretty quickly."
Jeff Green is in great shape and is very happy to be back on the court with his teammates after last season's surgery. He said that he played most of his time at the 3 in practice, while Chris Wilcox played most of his minutes at the 4. I'm seeing a 2nd unit with Jet at the point, Lee or Bradley at the 2, Green at the 3, Wilcox at the 4 and one of our 7 footers at the 5 (whichever one impresses the most). I'm getting giddy again!!! Like Paul Pierce said, this team is going to be scary good.

KG makes it clear just how he feels about Ray defecting to Miami. “Boston is a brotherhood” and Kevin Garnett makes is clear that since Allen is no longer a part of Boston, he is no longer his brother. During media day, Garnett tells reporters that once Allen decided to sign with Miami, KG deleted [...]
If you think that just because Kevin Garnett continues to age, that he won't be giving every game his all, think again. Garnett, 36, is entering his 18th season of professional basketball and his sixth as a member of the Celtics. Last season, Garnett started in 60 games while averaging 15.8 points and 8.2 rebounds in 31.1 minutes per game. Check out Garnett talking about his...
Today at media day Pierce confirmed that he would have considered retirement if Kevin Garnett had decided not to return this summer:“I really wasn’t confident he was coming back,” Pierce told the Boston Globe. “Kevin said, ‘This is it for me.’ … But I’ve learned with Kevin that when he says no he means yes, and when he says yes he means no. But this is in his blood...
At Miami Heat media day, Ray Allen was told about Kevin Garnett saying that he no longer had Ray's phone number. His reply was classy, as Ray always is with the media. From the Heat's beat reporter Ira Winderman:

Sounds like Kevin Garnett is acting as the big man coach to Celtics rookies Fab Melo and Jared Sullinger.
That was indeed the case on Sunday when Garnett spent some post-practice time with Boston's young bigs.
And to their credit, they were more than eager to soak it all in.
"For him to step out at the end of practice, knowing he's probably tired and just speaking...
Kevin Garnett is one of the most hated players in the NBA for reasons I don’t understand. He’s like that crazed but loyal fan who loves the best player on the team but as soon as he leaves, he’s public enemy No. 1. What’s wrong about that? Although I don’t condone talking to the media [...]

Kevin Garnett probably remembers every kid who didn't share his cookies with him in grade school. As the Celtics reconvened Friday for the run-up to the new NBA season, Garnett was frank about how he felt about former teammate Ray Allen, who signed with the rival Miami Heat this offseason. Garnett said he hasn't talked to Allen since trying to convince him to stay in Boston...
The NBA season opens in four weeks with the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat on TNT. And when the Celtics land in Miami, don't expect the guys to call up old buddy Ray Allen for some post-game drinks at LIV... especially Kevin Garnett. Because according to KG,
"I don't have Ray's number anymore."
The Celtics and the Heat have quickly turned into bitter rivals...

Before July 6, Kevin Garnett had a seemingly close relationship with Ray Allen. Both veterans went to the Celtics in 2007 with a common goal in mind — to join Paul Pierce in capturing their first NBA championship. After accomplishing that goal, it felt like nothing could drive a wedge between the brotherhood the Boston Three Party had established. That was until Allen decided to...
Dwyane Wade (via ESPN):
"(Garnett) doesn't need to be talking to our team anyway, so it's all good.
Mind your own business Mr. Pink Pants. Somehow Wade has become the bigger dick in Miami over LeBron. With his Rondo injuring, Dirk coughing, outfits, and overall doucheness, I can't stand him.

Kevin Garnett sat down with CSNNE to discuss his close relationship with Rajon Rondo. KG says he's there for Rondo at any hour of the night to give him advice and that they are both stubborn guys (shocker). It's always a good thing when a team's two best players have a tight relationship.
WALTHAM, Mass. -- The agony of defeat had not even had time to wear off when Rajon Rondo plopped into a seat next to Kevin Garnett on the team bus. The Celtics had just lost to the Miami Heat in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals and there were murmurs that Garnett, who was at the end of his contract, might consider retirement after 17 professional seasons. Rondo, who had never...
