Dr. Lars Svensson is the reason Jeff Green is still playing NBA basketball, the reason why Green was on the court to hit the game-winner to beat the Cavaliers on Wednesday night. In December 2011, Dr. Svensson performed heart surgery in Cleveland on Green after he was found to have an aortic aneurysm – he missed the entire 2011-12 season. A season later, he’s one of the key players on the Celtics roster, and he’s hitting game-winners. It was only fitting that he offered a hug to Dr. Svensson after driving to the hoop with 2.1 seconds left and hitting the layup in traffic. “I owe a lot to him…to have a game like this here, in front of my doctor…I think I made him proud,” said after the game on the significance of having Dr. Svensson in the crowd.
