Jeff Green hit a buzzer beater in Cleveland on Wednesday night to lift the Celtics to a 93-92 win, and following the winner he hugged a man who saved his life a little over a year ago. Dr. Lars Svensson was the recipient of a hug, and a well deserved one, as he performed open heart surgery on Jeff last year to mend an aortic aneurysm.
A.B. As Boston.com reported, after the game Green said, “Just a year ago and a couple months, I was under that bright light with him working on me.”
“It’s a blessing to be here.”
“That was for him.”
I love stories like this. Too often in sports we are reading about sprained ankles, broken bones, steroid use, traumatic brain injuries and deaths. It gets old after a while. So to see a 26 year old kid on the hometown green team recover from open heart surgery and a year later hug his doctor after a hitting a game winner is special.
