LeBron James, through his company SpringHill Entertainment, is set to produce a revival of the “House Party” franchise, which were huge hits in the 1990s and starred rap duo Kid ‘n Play. However, the Cleveland Cavaliers superstar insisted this foray into film making is not a traditional remake or reboot, in a manner of speaking.

“This is definitely not a reboot. It’s an entirely new look for a classic movie,” James said. “Everyone I grew up with loved ‘House Party.’ To partner with this creative team to bring a new ‘House Party’ to a new generation is unbelievable.”

Maverick Carter, James’ business partner, provided further details on the project, although it remains in the very earliest stages.

“We’re trying out some ideas for musicians to be cast in and to be a part of the project,” Carter noted.

When asked if there are any plans for James to make a cameo or even a more prominent appearance in the movie, Carter wouldn’t completely rule it out. James of course cut his teeth in the acting business with a widely hailed performance appearing as himself in the Amy Schumer-starring 2015 film, “Trainwreck.”

“There’s no plan for it now, but he’s a fantastic actor, and if he wants a role, Stephen will find a great role to put him in,” Carter said.

James has been making inroads into Hollywood over the past several years. Not only was he attached  to a sitcom project for NBC, it was also just revealed in 2016 by Mark Wahlberg that he and James are trying to put together a movie project.

On the television front, James in 2016 sold his production company’s first scripted series, a sports medicine drama, to NBC.

Other television projects, among other forays into the entertainment business, include “Cleveland Hustle,” a reality series airing on CNBC, as well as “Survivor’s Remorse, airing on Starz. The latter series is loosely based on James’ life. James is attached to “The Wall,” a game show airing on NBC, as well. A docuseries is also reportedly in the works, although issues have arisen on that front.
