As Paul Pierce nears his departure from the TD Garden and the Boston Celtics headquarters and heads off to Brooklyn, there is some unfinished business with No. 34 here at Atlantic Twine.
Pierce, who has been my favorite athlete in all of sports and poured his loyalty to the Celtics organization for 14 years, will take Kevin Garnett and himself to join Jason Kidd after July 12.
The Truth has been the face of the Boston Celtics for the past 14 years, and it is only right he receives gratitude and the appropriate send off. Whether it was making an incredible game-winning shot or pulling up for a fadeaway jumper from the elbow, the 35-year-old small forward did not disappoint the Celtics organization.
In his first few years with Team Green, Pierce played alongside Antoine Walker, and only made it as far as the Eastern Conference Finals, but that all ended after a troubling run when the Celtics received the No. 5 pick in the 2007-08 draft.
The Celtics finished the 2006-07 season with a 24-58 record. With an immense unknown of which direction the team was headed, one thing was for sure, Pierce wasn’t going anywhere, especially after the Celtics traded for Ray Allen using the draft pick and shipping a whole boat of seven players to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Kevin Garnett.
Pierce, a total dominator at the time, had to relieve some of his touches to give Allen and Garnett a chance to flash some brilliance, and in 2007-08, his loyalty and dedication to the team showed as the Celtics raised their 17th banner in the franchise’s history.
It’s tough sending No. 34 packing, but at age 35, the time is appropriate for the Celtics to make a move for the better of the franchise going forward. Pierce’s respect and demeanor is inevitable and will always have a stance in the history of the Boston Celtics.

When you think of the Boston Celtics you think winning, loyalty, and tradition. You think of the 17 championship banners that the franchise has raised to the rafters throughout it's storied 67 year history. You think of the 21 numbers that have been retired, forever immortalizing the legends that have donned the green and white. You think of guys like Bill Russell, Bob Cousy...
Can’t believe this is the first time I’ve seen this. Came across it on my friend’s Facebook page. Everything about it is just perfect: The music, the highlights and of course, The Truth. Be on the look out for my Truth/Ticket photo gallery in the coming days as well. Until then, enjoy this fantastic vid:
Anyone up for some early Tuesday morning tears?
"Where we came from a year ago, where I was at, to be
here today celebrating with my teammates, putting a stamp on what a great year
it was," Pierce told the jubilant fans after accepting the MVP trophy.
"Everybody stuck with me throughout all the hard times. I know we didn't
have a lot of great years, but you guys stuck with me, and now we bring home a
Nothing is forever. With every victory and every defeat, we must learn to enjoy and savor every moment. It will not last forever. I have prepared myself for years for the day Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett were no longer Boston Celtics. It took me so long to realize that nothing is forever and that goes for all the sports that I love. With that, I don’t feel any sadness on this...
No fan wants to see their favorite player (let alone a franchise type player) leave their team. It has happened before with Patrick Ewing, Hakeem Olajuwon and Charles Barkley.
But it is the nature of the NBA business and no player is safe or un-tradable from a team.
Paul Pierce isone of those players that many thouht he'd retire in green and white. Yet the Celtics made...

As wild as surprisingly entertaining as Thursday's NBA Draft was, the story of the night was the trade between the Celtics and Nets. The headline was Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Jason Terry heading to Brooklyn ... but the real story was the Celtics blowing it up and starting from the ground up. That skims over what really happened. The Celtics are starting over. This...
The Boston Celtics don’t plan to move All-Star point guard Rajon Rondo as part of the team’s rebuilding process, said president of basketball operations Danny Ainge. “I always listen to calls and listen to what ideas are, but we have no intentions of moving Rajon,” Ainge said to Chris
Pierce and KG will play for the Nets next season
It finally happened and we all lived it with a mixed feeling of sadness and hope for the future ahead. Last Thursday we were struck with the news of the interest of the Brooklyn Nets in acquiring both Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce. Right after losing Doc to the Clippers, we didn´t expect the rumor to become real and progress so quickly...
Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.
Low-budget options will be the C’s norm for a while.
As one member of the organization cautioned last week, “We’ll be dealing with veteran minimum contracts this year and not much else. Next summer, we’ll...
In the past week, the Boston Celtics have experienced an overwhelming amount of changes.
