Yesterday, we received word that Jeremy Pargo will be the new starter at the point for the Cleveland Cavaliers in the absence of star Kyrie Irving. Today, we’re learning more about how exactly Byron Scott plans to manage Irving’s lost minutes. Scott said that rookie guard Dion Waiters, who already has averaged 29.2 minutes per night in the first 10 games, will probably receive 6-8 more minutes per game, according to a tweet tonight from ESPN Cleveland’s Kenny Roda. Waiters will split this time between point guard and shooting guard. Our very own Scott, who’s at the game, then sent this follow-up: #Cavs are looking at 34-38 minutes from Dion Waiters tonight. Not looking, however, for 108 field goal attempts. — Scott @ WFNY (@WFNYScott) November 21, 2012 Of Waiters’ 292 minutes — according to Basketball-Reference.com — he’s played just over 36 of those minutes without Irving. Backups Pargo or Donald Sloan usually were at the point during those brief times. We’ll see how things work specifically on the court tonight as the Cavs return to action to play the Philadelphia 76ers again.
