With one little paragraph in his column, Bob Finnan has set off another round of rumors that Paul Pierce will be bought out by the Celtics.  First Finnan voiced his speculation and I've seen at least 5 other articles quotes that have run with it and are reporting that Pierce is going to be bought out. -- Sources indicate Celtics director of basketball operations Danny Ainge will likely buy out forward Paul Pierce's $15 million contract for next year ($5 million is guaranteed). If that happens, Grant should be first in line to try to acquire Pierce's services. However, before anyone gets too giddy, Pierce will likely want to go to a serious contender. Now, maybe I'm a bit skeptical but I'm thinking that Finnan is just working on the same rumors that have been swirling since the season ended. There were the rumors that Pierce felt he was done. And then that he was already packing his stuff up to move. And then we had the trade rumors. Pierce, Garnett and Doc to the Clippers. Pierce to the Pelicans. Now, he's likely to be bought out. I'm very hesitant to jump on any of these rumors. I'll report them as just what they are - rumors. But I don't believe them. I'm not going to believe any of these rumors until Danny makes the announcement. Since there isn't a lot of real Celtics news out there,  I expect every little comment and rumor to gain momentum and be reported over and over.   We don't have all that long to wait, and wade through the rumors,  because the decision on Pierce has to be made by June 30. Once that decision is made, we will know a lot more about what direction the team will be going in.  Then we can speculate with a bit more certainty.   June is going to be a busy month, especially for rumors.
