The Rock may not be the only celebrity wrestling at WrestleMania 28. A new report indicates that plans are in motion to follow up an angle from over a year ago that would bring one of the most recognizable names into the ring at WrestleMania.

Former NBA superstar, rapper, actor, and Deputy Shaquille O’Neill revealed in a radio interview this week that he is in negotiations to make his pro wrestling debut in Miami. Shaq told 'The Abe Kanan Show' that he is negotiating with the WWE to go one on one with The Big Show, following up an angle June 2009 on RAW.

This would be absolutely huge for the WWE. The interest in the match is not a big surprise. There were rumors following the June 2009 confrontation that the WWE were working hard at booking a SummerSlam match between the two. Unfortunately it was too close to the NBA season to make it happen. Even last June when Shaq retired, the WWE teased the match through Twitter.

It should be noted that Bryan Alvarez of reported on the website’s podcast that the WWE is not happy that this got out. I note that because there is a possibility that the company changes its mind if this whole angle was scheduled to revolve around a surprise.

I am real excited about this one. Of all Guest Hosts, it appeared that Shaq got it. He seemed like a natural when he stepped into the ring. The confrontation he had with The Big Show is still remembered as one of the highlights if not the most favorable moment of the often forgettable run of WWE Guest Hosts in 2009.

This would mark The Big Show’s third WrestleMania match against a sports celebrity. Show wrestled boxing great Floyd Mayweather, Jr. at WrestleMania 24 in a match that was a lot better than most people expected it to be. Mayweather's appearance went over well with the fans, so Show doing Shaq a favor shouldn’t be a big problem. Show’s other WrestleMania effort against Akebono at WrestleMania 21 did not go nearly as well as the Mayweather match.

I think the way to go here is a tag-team match. Shaq is a big pro wrestling fan and I can’t imagine it would take him long to adapt. But pulling a singles match on such a big stage in his very first match may be a lot to ask. At the same time, Floyd Mayweather was fantastic in his debut. I think the way to go here is tag-team match at WrestleMania and singles match at SummerSlam.

This would also mean that another heel turn would be in the works for The Big Show. There is no way that the WWE could expect Show to be cheered over Shaq if this match takes place. Remember, Show was a heel and teaming with Chris Jericho at the time of the last confrontation. Maybe Show turns heel on Daniel Bryan, Shaq comes to the rescue, and we see a Bryan-and-Shaq vs. Show and Christian match at WrestleMania 28?

Report: Celtics still looking to move Rajon Rondo

CSNNE's Donny Marshall says the Celtics have not closed the door on trading Rajon Rondo this season.  Here's what was said on Celtics Pregame Live: Donny Marshall: I don't think it's off the radar yet to say Rondo is going to be with this team for the entire season. I spoke with an agent earlier in the week who said this thing is still hot. To have people pay...

KG Takes JaJuan Under His Wing…Big Deal?

ESPN Boston’s Chris Forsberg is reporting that the Celtics rookie Power Forward and first round selection JaJuan Johnson has seemingly earned the trust of future Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett. The quote from Forsberg:   * JJ earns KG’s trust: It may seem minor, but JaJuan Johnson appears to have already earned the trust of Kevin Garnett and that’s huge [...]

Paul Pierce could come off bench in season opener against New York Knicks

Paul Pierce (bruised heel) is still questionable for Sunday’s game against the New York Knicks. If he does play, Doc Rivers said it could be as a substitute. (ESPN Boston)“We didn’t even ask him to [participate in practice],” said Rivers. “We won’t ask him to do anything until Saturday, so we’ll see what he can do. Then if he can play, we may play him. If he can...

Hollinger: Celtics to finish third, eyeing future

ESPN's John Hollinger predicts the Celtics to finish third in the east. I guess I'm just rounding up all of the "expert" picks. He doesn't necessarily say the Celtics are just looking towards the future. You can get the impression from the players that they are prepping for one last run at a championship. However, he does bring up that after this year only two...

Boston Celtics 2011-12 Season Preview

Usually NBA season previews are best read in October, back when football games hardly mattered, Midnight Madness was a few weeks away, and baseball was winding down. Perhaps with the last of the offseason's iced tea in hand, as you whiled away on a too-warm-for-the-season afternoon. Well, pour yourself a glass of bull shot and tighten those mittens, because it's late-December...

For Allen, there's no greener pasture

He could have shaken Danny Ainge’s hand last spring, thanked him for four good years in green and moved on to another city and another challenge. The Celtics were coming off a truncated season, a lockout was looming, and exit visas seemed possible for several players. But Ray Allen has been around the league long enough - 15 seasons with another starting Sunday - to know when he’s...

Former Celtics in Abundance on the Waiver Wire

Add Eddie House to the list of former Celtics who were released in the past week. The Heat just waived him, while the Thunder are putting the finishing touches on a buyout for his trade counterpart Nate Robinson. The Thunder didn't even have Nate in camp. Other Celtics getting the boot were Gabe Pruitt in Orlando, Gerald Green in L.A, and James Posey in Indiana. The Celtics have...

Wrapped up

The Celtics’ reserves had a final preseason showcase opportunity in an 81-73 win over the Toronto Raptors last night at TD Garden. And they showed most of the qualities coach Doc Rivers expected - spectacular athleticism combined with inconsistency.
