Week 4 of the NBA season was very up and down for the Boston Celtics. On the up side of things they battled their way back above.500. On the downward side, star point-guard Rajon Rondo was suspended for two games after a senseless shoving match in their loss against the New Jersey Nets on Wednedsday Night! Furthermore, the week would end on a big upswing as the Celtics won by 20+ points on Friday night against the Portland Blazers. Next up a Saturday December 1, 2012 matchup against the difficult to beat Milwaukee Bucks will show if the Rondo-less win streak will continue! Speaking of streaks. Sadly, we will not know if Rondo could have beaten Magic Johnson’s record of most games with at least 10+ assists! In a scuffle with the Brooklyn Nets” Kris Jeffiries, Rondo was ejected from the game after the “Shove heard around the NBA World!” This happened early in the contest, after a hard foul on teammate Kevin Garnett caused Rondo to push Jeffiries sparking a team shoving match flareup! The league office decided this was inappropriate and Rondo will be suspended for 2 games. The team was in disarray and lost the contest to the early-season league leading Brooklyn Nets 83-95! Fortunately, for the Celtics this was the only let down of the week! After beating the Oklahoma City Thunder 108-100 in impressive fashion last week, they steadily climbed above the .500 mark to win in OT down in Orlando 116-110. They also beat Portland handily at home 96-78. So needless to say the Celtics are soaring again. One more game without Rondo and then he should be back and ready to go but if the Celtics keep playing team basketball like they did Friday night, they should be fine either way! In fact #4 Jason Terry and #8 Jeff Green stepped up to score 17 and 19 points respectively! Rondo did achieve the goal of tying John Stockton’s 10+/game assist record of 37 straight games but unfortunately that is as far as it can go due to the shoving incident. More importantly though, he and Head Coach Doc Rivers would probably agree it looks like the newest Celtics players are starting to make a big impact in contributing to team victories! This is definitley a long awaited “Up” . Let’s hope it continues! Go Celts Go!
