Found August 06, 2013 on Queen City Sports:
On Monday night, the Bills participated in a practice scrimmage. Thanks to the Bills’ official website, Chris Trapasso and Buffalo Rumblings I felt as if I were live in attendance. Here are a few thoughts on the scrimmage. The Defense is Ahead of the Offense This should come as a surprise to no one. The defense should be ahead of the offense at this point and it showed early in the scrimmage. The defense came at E.J. Manuel and the Bills offense from all angles and it caused plenty of confusion. Buffalo’s linebackers looked great and the defensive line rotation has a lot of potential to say the least. The secondary, however, is still a bit worrisome. The safeties actually played pretty well and that’s without star safety Jairus Byrd. The cornerback position however is a bit shaky. Stephon Gilmore is solid, but will have his occasion letdowns. It happens with young corners. The second cornerback spot could hurt Buffalo. McKelvin has great moments on the field, but still has his fair share of mistakes. E.J. Manuel Played Like a Rookie Quarterback Manuel started off slowly and made his fair share of mistakes. Take a deep breath Bills fans, it’s okay. Manuel is a rookie and with Kolb being out the last three days, he’s had a lot thrown at him. On Monday, Buffalo threw plenty of exotic looks that Manuel hadn’t seen at the start of training camp. All of the confusion now will benefit Manuel long term. Manuel is getting looks at blitzes and will soon learn how to pick up said blitzes. When the real games begin, Manuel will be able to handle the blitzes from opposing defenses. Wide Receiver Position is Deep Buffalo’s wide receiver position was extremely weak the last few seasons. Now, the position has an incredible amount of promise. Behind Stevie Johnson, the team has Robert Woods, T.J. Graham, Marquise Goodwin, Da’Rick Rogers, Marcus Easley among others. The group has looked great thus far and they’ll be exciting to watch during the preseason. Different Feel to the Team I’ve heard it before but not from so many people. This Bills team feels different. The practices have more intensity. The coaching staff is intense and gets on the players. Next Monday and Wednesday I’ll get to see the coaching staff up close. Something tells me I’ll really like what I see. The post Buffalo Bills Practice Scrimmage Thoughts appeared first on Queen City Sports.

The Bills shouldn’t rush the quarterback situation

The Buffalo Bills surprised many when they selected EJ Manuel in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft. And even though there are plenty of people who think Manuel’s high draft status means he should start right away, Mike Mayock feels differently. “I think who the guy is Week 1 is less important than what the big picture is,” says Mayock. “From my perspective, you have a...

BuffalOkie Mondays: Jamie Blatnick Eyes Roster Spot

As the Buffalo Bills enter their second week of training camp, the grind of the preseason regimen has already made itself very apparent in Pittsford, NY.  Several injuries, mostly minor, have been among the main storylines surrounding the Bills’ first week of practice. For shoo-in players like Mario Williams and Stevie Johnson, those injuries are mere bumps in the road that need...

Can Buying Madden Provide A Blackout Loophole for Bills Fans?

Owen Good of Kotaku posted an interesting tidbit today: buying the anniversary edition of this year’s Madden is the cheapest way to watch the NFL. Presumably Good means ALL of the NFL games, because you can watch a healthy 3 or 4 games a week over free local airwaves. But for WNY fans of the Buffalo Bills who don’t attend every home game, there is a potential game changing easter...

Running Back Context: CJ Spiller set to take charge of Buffalo backfield, how will he fare in Doug Marrone’s offense?

Heading into his fourth season CJ Spiller finally resides atop the Buffalo Bills’ depth chart. Make no mistake, Fred Jackson has been an effective contributor for the Bills when healthy, but his presence has kept Spiller from reaching his true fantasy potential. With Chan Gailey ousted the expectation is that Doug Marrone is ready to unleash Spiller. For reasons that many had trouble...

Bills plan on giving C.J. Spiller “the ball until he throws up”

Bills offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett is a smart man,  he knows who they have to give the ball to.  He told reporters that they plan on giving running back C.J. Spiller the ball “until he throws up.” “It’s real simple,” Hackett said, via The Buffalo News. “We’re going to give him the ball until he throws up. Green Bay to workout Vince Young

Vince Young needs a paycheck, and the Green Bay Packers might be a team willing to give it to him. Facing serious financial issues, Young cannot be picky about the team he gets a job with. Nobody is looking for him to compete for playing time, and the Packers certainly won’t be looking at Young as an option to lead their offense with Aaron Rodgers under center. However, the backups...

Packers sign QB Vince Young to 1-year deal

Vince Young is being given another chance and this time it comes with the Green Bay Packers who have been looking for a backup quarterback since Matt Flynn left last season. Young hasn’t played in the NFL since 2011 when he signed with the Philadelphia Eagles and labeled the team with the famous “Dream Team” nickname. Obviously the dreams crashed and burned as he appeared in...
