The Cardinals have now played two preseason games, and they're still scratching their heads in an increasingly desperate search for a starting quarterback. In their most recent effort, Kevin Kolb was an embarrassing 1 of 5 passing with just 21 yards. His chief rival, John Skelton, didn't finish much better, going 3 for 6 with 35 yards and an interception.

The question on Ken Whisenhunt's mind, and indeed any Cardinals fan's mind, is what should Arizona be doing now that it's becoming more and more evident that they do not have a starting quarterback. The time for bringing in a veteran may have already come and gone, and it's leaving the Cardinals in a very tough position.

The simple solution, of course, would be to simply find a trading partner with an extra quarterback. There are a number of teams that are carrying two serviceable quarterbacks that the Cardinals may be interested in obtaining. For instance, if Ryan Tannehill wins the Dolphins' starting job, Miami may be willing to listen to offers for David Garrard.

The other route the Cardinals could go, and admittedly less appealing at that, would be to simply stick it out. Even with a competent veteran at the helm, the Cardinals probably aren't a playoff team, and the fact of the matter is that they need a young quarterback that can grow, not a veteran on his last leg.

The Cardinals aren't going to do anything drastic in the immediate future, but the clock is ticking on Kevin Kolb and John Skelton. Whisenhunt had hoped that one of his two top choices would separate himself from the other, but that hasn't happened yet. They have three preseason games left to go, and they need to make the most of those opportunities.
